Thunderbird Club

Bar stories... I'm pretty sure I told this tale before here, but a while back. I played with the Eddie Taylor Blues Band in the late '70s-mid '80s in Chicago. Eddie and his son Larry on drums, Steve on rhythm guitar & me on bass. (my '64 II) We had a reoccurring gig on the East side (primarily black) at a joint called The Golden Slipper. It's where I initially 'auditioned' for Eddie. (8 - 5:30am!) It was probably swanky when new - a very old-school "lounge". It was a Friday night and the place was hopping/packed. Midway through a song, there was a commotion at the long bar - a man & woman arguing loudly. A knife was pulled and suddenly everyone in the bar pulled a gun or knife. I had a 2x15 cab Acoustic 150 amp then and quickly got behind it! The club owner behind the bar, "Bow-Tie" raised his arms and advised everyone to stay calm - slowly, everyone put their weapons away and Eddie motioned to us to start playing again, which we did. I have a few stories from playing at that place - easy to sound exaggerated, but it all happened.

Yummy, curvalicious Non Reverse goodness.

YARDBIRD YU-SUTO MODEL - KAMINARI GUITARS

Lollar pu's - I wonder about all the different hs identity graphics - the basses all look the same other than that, so they make multiple identities and you pick which one you want? Light ash sounds good too. Also - an example of a non-setback Gibson style hs with string retainer-bar.

Mine did a darned good job on Hank Williams' "I Saw the Light" yesterday.
So this new to me Epi TV Silver LE Custom Shop with the chrome guitar humbucker pickups and DA tapes is confusing me. When I was shedding with it this weekend, my wife and son, who never say anything, commented how good my playing sounded. But the tapes hide a lot of the fretting placement errors and finger noise. But it does sound good on the Beatles and Fleetwood Mac stuff I was playing.

So, I’ll go ahead and put a new set of the DA tapes on it (some will recall, the prior owner butchered the set that is on it).

but, I have to get better and will solder on with stainless steel rounds on all my other basses. I really need to work on cleaning up technique.

Yah, soldering stainless is tricky... ;)

NBD for my Bday! My first bass was a Klira violin bass the second a '65 Hofner. As a young lad in '73 I thought all I would ever need was a Hofner after all it was good enough for Paul. How wrong I was, by '74 it was apparent that I needed a solid body bass. I couldn't afford much but I picked up a Univox Hiflyer bass at The House of Guitars for 30 bucks and road home on my bike with it over my shoulder. I didn't have it long but it served me well for maybe 12 months and then I sold it to a friend, it sent me on the path to discover Thunderbirds. This is the final piece of my "early years collection " a birthday gift from my dear wife. I found it on ebay for a price we both can live with and in better shape than most. I've included a picture from '74 with my first Hiflyer, note the Wishbone Ash T shirt!

NU Metal was big in the 00's along with boy bands.
Good point, I (fortunately) forgot about all the “Boy Bands”. They were a big thing for my pre teen daughter in the early 2000’s. Thankfully she progressed into liking bands like 3 Doors Down, Finger 11 and Theory of a Dead Man. Not sure what genre they fit into - maybe modern post grunge or post alt?
