Thunderbird Club

I know. I don't know how the other band members restrained from committing a felony. Playing for money is like a job. Or should be, IMO. I know there's drinking and other things tolerated, but you only screw yourself by acting like a HS kid away from parents. Why someone didn't stop him is beyond me. They would have had a far better chance had they engaged in a fight on stage over that than letting it continue. It would be so tempting to never let that guy ever forget that. Something you all have worked hard to achieve and a few idiotic and needless comments and it was all gone.

Proving that skill, talent or even intellect is useless when there is a lack of wisdom. No matter how good that guy or anyone is, it's nearly impossible to overcome stupid.
Sometimes you look at people and you wonder how all that stupid fit in one head.

When I was 22, a younger guy next door had started a band with two of his friends. They wanted another guitar player. We jammed and gelled; they were pretty good, though it was clear I'd be reminding them to stay focused. We were supposed to audition in a week to play at the BL's cousin's wedding. We practiced a few times in the BL's family's garage and I thought we had a pretty good chance. We go to the cousin's house, set up outside, but then had to wait for someone who wasn't there. The rest of the band started drinking beer. By the time we auditioned, they were blitzed. After the third attempt at "Taking care of Business" completely fell apart, the cousin's dad called for a halt. I packed up and left. I stayed on good terms with the teens, but said no thanks on being in a band.
At least they didn't yell out "<Cousin's name> SUCKS!"

I have a quiet day at home this Tuesday, had to take Latifa to the Vet for an echocardiogram early which left me with some time to myself. I went ahead and soldered in a new .047 oil filled cap, added some new strap pins and changed the RotoSounds out for these Nickel Rounds from SIT. Love, love, love how they sound with the bass!

Pretty much together and sorted - what great bass this one is!

The bass player couldn't consistently stand up. The lead guitar/singer was all over the scale. The drummer couldn't keep time and occasionally played phantom drums. It was like a comedy skit. Far better the audition than the wedding.

Nice! Those are essentially the Power Wounds. You were looking for nickel over steel for that bass?

Turned out great! I would get better tuners for mine and have Wilkins refinish it in Pelham Blue. But the finish is just too nice on mine. The only mod it really needs is a pickup. Such a great Thunderbird!

We’ll compare at the GTG with Chucky’s.

My daughter was all in with the boy bands, Brittany Spears, etc of that era, but also loved KISS and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. The early exposure to Cave, The Cure, and Sisters of Mercy lead her into her emo phase with My Chemical Romance and AFI before she got into more folky, acoustic stuff.

Now that I think about it, a lot of "alternative" bands seemed to be pretty successful back then as well and got regular exposure on MTV.
I don't remember what band it was that my son discovered when he was in middle school. It was what a carpenter I worked with called sheetrock music. The kid was blasting away and asked I liked it. I didn't so much, but it was OK. He summoned up a lot of scorn, which middle school kids are very good at doing, and he said "geez daaaaaad, don't you like to party?" It was all I could do not to bust out laughing right there.

I haven’t been by the Salton Sea since 2014. It was a puddle then. Send pics. I’d like to hope it has improved with the rains this year. When I was a young kid in San Diego, my parents took us there a few times during the winter. It was pretty cool during the early sixties.

I have long gibbon like arms ! By 15 I was just about 6ft. The black one I had as a kid was a series II and yes it did sound pretty good! Better than the Mosrite I would own briefly in 75. The one incoming is a series III and is equipped with humbuckers, I always thought that they were the best sounding of the lot.
The ape factor is a real advantage for a bass player. I never made 6ft, but have the wingspan like it happened.

Good day everybody.
I'm not sure if this thread is the right one but I think there are experts here who probably can help me.
I have a Jazz Bass pickup (1977) which after a long break from playing is just dead. After I removed it and measured it, it was clear that it had zero resistance. I checked the solder joints and didn't find anything out of the ordinary. The wires of the coils arrive at the soldering points, but courious there are two wires at one soldering point??? The pickup was never rewound. The pickup was working a long time ago and since then no alterations have been made to it.
Anyone have any ideas on this or how a pickup can just die?
I really don't know, unless the insulation in the windings somehow deteriorated and it's shorting out that way.
