Thunderbird Club

Seymour Duncan has produced for Lull in the past when demand was too much for their original supplier, TV Jones, Curtis Novak was not involved.
FWIW I like the Sd's I put in my Orville a lot but I need to try a fresh set of Smith's and maybe some SIT's on it to hear the pickups at their best. ATM the Orville isn't going to make the trip to the GTG.
:crying:

Yeah. I meant T.V. Jones.

I wonder about these Gemini pickups. He offers them in gold as well.
Thunderbird Bass Pickups
Andy thx for posting, those all look like good options. I’ve been looking for an upgrade to the ChinaBuckers in my BlingBird but the challenge was finding anything in gold. These fit the bill and one of them even has coil split options.

Dunno how I’d feel buying the “Degenerate” model…..guess he’s banking on the quirkiness of Bird fans….
LOL - after listening to the sound samples the Degenerate was the one I liked best. Man that thing is wound hot!

Just because I’m up a bit too late on a court night.
Somewhat relevant, somewhat not.

Awesome looking! What actual model is it?
Are those Tbird pups and coil taps? And the fret blocks, oh my.
I think I’m in love!

For all the cat owners. Er, staff:

I ordered some strings. Fret Nation has SIT Power Steels at $15.95. That’s less than I paid the last time I bought some. I also ordered a set of Dunlop Marcus Miller Stainless Steel Superbrights. They’ve gone up to $22.00 from $20.00. I had to go to Amazon for the DA tapes for the T.V. Silver Epi at $52.97 (ouch!) and the SIT Royal (11’s) acoustic guitar strings I like. I want to try a different set of Dunlop stainless steels that come in a black pack; I found them for $19.00 at Strings and Beyond but I haven’t ordered them yet.

For some reason, string shopping was a bit more difficult this time having to go to multiple sites to find what I wanted.

I thought the “Devastator” and the “Dominator” pickups sounded pretty good from the samples on the site. I did not care for what I was hearing from the “Degenerate” sample. And according to the site, they’re made in Wales!

I was thinking the same thing. I need to find a good spot in the yard for it.

I’ve mounted whatever it is I wanted to get slightly yellowed to a small board and leaned it up against something at a low angle so it faced up but west.

left it out for weeks sometimes, especially in winter.

The covers just when from overly bright white to slightly off white.

Funny thing is, after being on the instrument and in use for a few years, stored in a case when not in use, the covers ended up getting very noticeably yellower, almost too much.

That reminded me of some 'wine(?) they had at a place I used to go to: "Grandma's Wine-aged on the truck".

The Acaica NR just got a Controlectomy today, she came out of the operation just fine sans the passive three knob layout and now is sporting a custom John East preamp I had laying around from another build. It’s now three stacked knobs Vol/pan, neck bass+-/treb+-/pull up for bright, bridge bass+-/treb+-/pull up for bright. Really brought the Nordstrand Zen sidewinders to life. Here it is before the operation (the only visual difference is it now has stacked knobs)…

The VP NR is at the finisher getting a Shoreline Gold Metallic body job. Here’s a shot I took at the fit test just before sending it to the finisher…

The ThunderCaster NR is still in the very early stages of construction. I haven’t had any time to work on it. When all is said and done it should be an exact copy of my Fender Modern Player Telecaster. Absolutely everything on the Tele will be scavenged off to make the NR. The only non fender components will be the NR body and a custom pickguard I’m designing. Everything else right down to the strings and screws will come from the Tele. The pickup locations will be identical to the Tele locations as well. The intent is to retire the last Fender I really only play anymore so I can focus on the more ergonomically comfortable NR without losing the Tele sound I love. A pic of the donor and recipient…View attachment 5122212

That is one beaut of a bass! How does the John East sound in it?? I have a J retro in my Jag which i really like. Also what kind of John east Pre is it??

See my above post.
Not your standard Tbird pups.
Very low output, and yes, coil taps.

Yeast starter for next batch of beer. We’ll see if it is ready for the GTG. Normally, 4 weeks is my minimum production time but GTG is 3.5 weeks. I think it will work if I put 6 bottles worth in a pressurized growler. That 6 is really just for sampling. The 2 cases of 805 are for drinking.

You have likely tried this, but I often search Reverb and put things on the watch list. I will often get an offer for a better price after it sits a while or notified if there is a sale on that item. All my SITs were purchased that way. Some ebay sellers will do the same.

I liked the Degenerate as well. It definitely sounds aggressive and in the right bass that would probably be amazing!
