I remember Uwe commenting on those........Not favorably, evidently they're rather weak sounding, save your monies and go for an old EB-3.
My bad, but still I would like to try one trick or two in order to beef it's sound up, I really like my bird.
I know. Some def swapped out the pups.
Only drawback on an EB-3 for me is not found of the Mudbucker right up against the neck.
Fret Nation usually has the best prices on SITs with free shipping (by slow boat unfortunately). He isn’t carrying the SIT acoustic guitar strings or the DA tapes. But he is a SoCal business so I like to support him.
Reverb had the DA tapes for the same price as Amazon, but shipping is an extra $5.00. Can’t beat Amazon Prime for convenience. There is a distribution center 20 miles away, so we usually get Prime next day delivery on most things. That’s the only reason I looked to them.
Unfortunately, the two local independent music stores have cut way back on their bass string inventory. I have to have them order what I want, so what’s the point. And the last time I was in the local GC, they only had Ernie Ball and a few sets of the more common DA strings.
Don't forget to try out a set of the black box Dunlop stainless steel.
It’s an East preamp that I worked with John to custom design for a test mule that I was working on back around 2005. I wanted to add a split P pickup to my Stingray for a unique dual pickup bass design I was working on. But I didn’t want to lose the Stingray sound. So I worked with John to come up with a dual preamp design.
He ended up using his standard East preamp for the Precision pickup but added a custom designed preamp for the Stingray pickup. I was shooting for a 2 band preErnie Ball Stingray voicing and control design for the Stingray pickup. I think this was one of his first Music Man preamps and he pulled it off perfectly.
As a test mule proof of concept preamp it worked great. He and I made a couple of changes to the design for the final iteration and that version became one of my favorite preamps. Here it is installed in the bass I designed and built around 2006…
The design improvements over the test mule (which is now in the pink NR) were:
Elimination of the pan knob (wasn’t fond of the volume drop at center detent) replaced that stack with a vol/vol layout
Addition of a pickup selector toggle - neck, both, bridge

See, that's exactly why I want one, preferably a Slot Head. Not like any other bass, it would not be for use with my band.
I know. I haven’t forgotten. They’re in a shopping cart on Strings And Beyond. I want to see what else they carry so I’m not ordering only one set from them. And I have to spread the purchases out so the accountant doesn’t get mad at me.

There were less than 100 total in 4-5 batches, there's definitely some variations between them, it will be interesting to have several of them together for comparison.

It's my first blue bass, I like the color quite a bit as an aside I saw a new Ford Bronco in this blue last week and really liked it - very retro cool. I usually don't get excited about cars unless it's a Subaru.
So now you’re my competition for blue Thunderbirds. The tone is in the color.
