I assumed the Degenerate pups were dual coil dual rails. As opposed to poles and rails. Just put a set of Bart dual coil dual rails in my FrankenGoth. They sound very good. If I had seen these first I would have gone with them. Oh well, there’s always another build on the horizon.

Chuck might like the split coil feature. In split mode on the bridge pickup you only get one blade (closest to the bridge) for some nice Jazz type honk, burb and quack. Drop it into humbucker mode and it’s a squeaky clean Tbird pickup, or boost the bass by 15db and blow the cones off the speakers. I put tapes on it so it’s even more unique sounding. I’m counting on Chuck to slap the snot out of it at the GTG.

speaking of cones….two 10” Markbass drivers on their way at 145.00/ea pre tax and shipping!…..:eek:
oh well…..was hoping we could all slap away…little lesson here….
incredible bass, Moon (MiJ) Larry Graham model….alloy fingerboard…..snappy..

I hear ya on the Jag, nice bass, but not a bird.

Coincidentally, when I was all done with the Stingray test mule bass I yanked the East preamp out and gave the husk to a fellow TB’er. The East test mule preamp was then put into a SS Jag I had laying around to see if it could wake up that anemic Jazz bridge pickup. No such luck, the SS Jag has a wonderful split P in the neck and a totally lackluster J at the bridge.

Thought about putting a MM pickup in place of the Jazz pup as you’ve noted, and I suspect it would sound great. But didn’t do it because I already had the P/MM with an East preamp that I built. So yesterday I yanked the East out of the SS Jag and put it in the Pink NR, with great results.

I’m currently running flats on the Pink NR that I’d like to change to Tapes or Nickel Rounds to get the most out of the East preamp. But string selection on fanned fret five string basses is pretty limited, not sure they even make tapes for a 36-34 scale.

Would be more to my liking.

I’m not a slap guy at all, but that sure looks interesting.
Have you tried slapping a bass with tapes on it? Does it get too clacky?

I had to go look and came upon this definitive statement:
Nothing that is sold as furniture polish in hardware stores should ever touch a musical instrument.

I wonder what they would say about Brasso? It's sold as a metal polish!
Apparently I've been ruining musical instruments since 1980:roflmao:
