Right. However, EBMM has models like the Joe Dart signature and the the Tim Commerford passive signature models, short and long scale, that have pickups designed to work without a preamp.

No problem. It takes longer to heat the soldering iron up than to make the mod.

^this is the correct answer.
There are basses out there, like Alembic for instance, that are completely designed and built around active control systems for their signature sound and tone shaping features. If the active portion of the bass was added to an otherwise passive instrument then it should have the option to play either way. All others will just have to remember to change batteries (or have a power supply cable says JAE).

The passive setting on my G&L 2500 was to die for! The rest of the settings were useless as far as I was concerned.

Thrilled they are working well! I bet that bass would sound great with SS, Flats, NPS..... Love the pickup locations. Kind of 60s Thunderbird territory.

Joe Walsh did a tour as a member of the local (always changing) group The Party Boys. He and Kevin Borich played “Duelling Guitars”.
Anyway there is a story that when they were preparing to get the next gig which was a long drive away, they all went up by road except for Joe. He chartered a plane and flew, with some comment about it being good to be rich / wealthy. Something like that. (The story was recounted somewhere and I remember when I heard it was done as a humorous story rather than calling him a big head or anything.)
