The white LE Custom Shop Epi arrived today! It left Syracuse Tuesday AM and arrived here on the best coast this PM.

Well packed by the seller.

Case is a bit beat with a few stickers on it. It can use a new handle, two of the bottom feet are missing, and I need to glue some lining back in place. It’s still usable as is though.

Surface cracks as disclosed by the seller.

And a headstock ding. It came from New York. I wonder if Scott ever owned it given the ding.

Overall I’d say it’s in very good condition.

It has what seem to be DA nickel rounds. It’ll get these as I told Ken I’d try them and compare them to Power Steels and Superbrights.

The setup is decent with the neck straight how I usually set them and medium low action. A quick play revealed that the electronics work, but It may need a tone pot as I don’t hear much difference sweeping from 0 to 10.

I’ll post more pics after I’ve checked the TR, cleaned it up, polished the frets, oiled the FB, and inspected the control cavity.

I'm with the Dude. Hate is too strong a word, but I got completely sick of the Eagles in the '70s.

I liked them pretty well early on, but after Henley and other changes, there were only a handful of songs I liked. Despite the ubiquitous airplay, I still like Hotel California all right.

I use a black sharpie to mask slight tears. Clear nail polish sounds like a good idea. I’m surprised the VP fits!

I was half expecting to put the VP back in the newer Epi case and the CP in this, but now I can put any of the birds in any of the cases! Well, except the VP can’t go in the old, rectangular Epi case, or not easily…

I don't know of any thing specific, but should be easy enough..... depending on how much you want to change things, I guess.

Probably easiest, and is the way I'd go if I were to make that mod, would be to swap the pre-amp (which most people consider to be the weak point on the Pro 4/5 Thunderbirds, it's not an awesome pre-amp) with one that has the passive option built in.
Least amount of wiring/mods/etc., imo, and gets you a better pre-amp at the same time.

If you want to keep the pre-amp for whatever reason, there's a couple main ways to add a passive option, afaik. Both involve a switch of some kind to bypass the pre-amp. Either a push/pull pot (usually volume, for on/off bypass, or treble, that works as a passive tone when pulled) or a toggle.

I've never really considered putting a passive option on an active bass that doesn't have one, it's not really a feature I need, so I haven't really explored the available options further than that.

Just off the top of my head, I think you could do it with a 3PDT switch; one for each pickup and one to switch what the jack connected to. But I haven’t drawn it out to be sure I’m not missing something.

I'm more than open to ideas, but considering they're encased in epoxy, I think they're screwed.

Glad it worked out. Gator cases are a great deal at the regular price. 1/3 off for a second with a blemish is a no brainer.

I liked the James Gang, played Funk 49 in my high school combo... but never an Eagles fan.

I love Joe's solo albums from "Barnstorm" to "You Bought It You Named". They are at times very experimental and even proggy.


Fretless bass through a Leslie? Check. A massive sound.
Kenny Passarelli had a great big sound on the first two Joe albums.

The Eagles had a lot of great songs, that unfortunately got overplayed on the radio. There’s one that didn’t get as much air time so it’s probably my favorite Eagles tune, nice and laid back…

Love that song!

It always reminds me of the 80s Desperado tv movie that used that song for its theme music......
