Anyone have any experience with an Ibanez Artcore hollow body bass? I see one local for $220. Never played a hollow body. Should have when we were at More Music.

I had the shortscale version, it was quite nice. Sounded great! It was very Höfner-like, sound wise.

Since the subject of strings came up, what would be the best string for a ‘64 IV if you wanted to get as close to the original as possible?

Nickel Rounds, not stock in '64, but that's what's on mine - and, what Mike Lull used on my T4.

Thanks. That aligns with what the Fender folks were saying for a 64 P played by Carol Kaye and Hofner for McCartney. Now, would I dare use a Fender stainless flat on a bird?
I did-years ago(7250s?). They were OK, I guess, it just seemed 'wrong' to have them on the 'Bird. I still have them-somewhere. I don't cut strings* when I replace them, JIC the new ones don't work out. I put them, re-labled, into the package the 'new' ones came in.

*OK, one set: GHS Brite Flats. Hated them.

“carefully”…. just kidding!…can’t wait to see what you have in store for us….

Usually just two maximum, I think I only had one that evening, the food arrived and cut me off!
The sweet guy on the left took the day off so the bass could be signed for........... "My train was on time and I got to work by Nine, start my slavin' job to my pay". Thanks, BTO!

You can give ‘em a shot and let us know. I doubt the current ones are anything like what they were like in ‘64. Anyway, I’m pretty sure they would be too dark for my taste.

Were they Tbird replacements? I think they have made a fair range of pickups over the years.
I've played basses with Bartolini soapbars and they had that full range piano sound.

It was years ago and I have no idea what variety they were - Bart buckers is all I knew then. I've heard many people like them.

I remember many years ago I had em on a Precision. From what I’ve heard and some people have said here, as you said Marshall, they aren’t the same as they used to be.
But. The ones I tried were bright and open sounding. Not dark at all.
But way to high in tension.
Then I discovered EBCF’s.
Will always be my preferred flat.
But I still can’t seem to get an answer from Dave about what flats he has on one of his black VP’s.
