Since the subject of strings came up, what would be the best string for a ‘64 IV if you wanted to get as close to the original as possible?
I don't have a clue on that. Strings have changed so much, even is you found it was Gibson strings used, chances of those sounding the same are practically zero I would think. But it's an interesting question.

Bear with me on this Ken.
But the way that E string is wound on their home page scares me.

Now my OCD has kicked in, not a proper wind at all.
LOL - I was trying so hard not to bring that up…
…but now that you have, I can finally release my inner OCD and yell :rage:- “You fool, where’d you learn how to wind a bass string, that looks like a ball of yarn from a damn knitting class!”:banghead:

I have a set of Barts and a while back I recorded and posted an A/B comparison with one of them and a Chinabucker in my J.
I've read that the Barts are dark and the Chinabuckers are thin. To me they both sound pretty good and were very close. IIRC someone commentented that the Bart was brighter - not what I expected!

Barts I've used in the past were dark - too dark for me.

Back from day 2 of managing bands at Winters' - Fog Fest weekend. As expected, it wasn't the 'blow-out' that was yesterday which was nice. I finally learned how to set-up/work both inside & out PA's correctly and took detailed notes for next time. Very fun music all day long - once again varied and entertaining. Last outside band (6-7pm) was very fun quartette (drums, keys, bass & guitar). The lead vocalist/guitarist and female bass player were both 20somethings, petite and very cute. They played matching neon-pink Dean guitar/bass and dressed in black with black hoods. Guitarist reminded me a lot of Prince - very expressive with good moves. Bass-player had pink hair and they both wore dark sun-glasses. Drummer was older and so was the keys player and dressed 'street casual'. All original material - really engaging pop-rock. The guitarists' mom (visiting from Seattle) was there sitting next to me at the picnic table and we chatted a bit during their show. Apparently the bass player was pretty new to the band and I wished she turned up her volume. (bass needs to be fully present, not just hinted at)

A band that played on the same day TSC played earlier this year (Beaster Sunday) was on the inside bill this time around. (power trio - really good) I remembered their bass player because he rocked what looked like a (white) Bi-Centennial T-bird. We talked today and he reminded me it was a '90s MIJ Bi-Centennial tribute. He's a good player and that bass sounded sooo good! I told him about tb and our thread and it's possible he'll join in the fun here.

I didn't take any pics today but here's one from Beaster - these guys rock! :bassist:

Oh oh oh, I guess Rotosounds… I mean, in ‘64, what other string was there?

(I don’t even know if Rotos were around then.)

I am by no means an all knowing wizard of anything.

I'm not sure Rotos bass strings were widely distributed back in the '64, and if they were I don't think they'd be the Rotos that come to mind: not 100% on this but I always thought they were called '66 bcoz that's when Ox went to Sevenoaks to their factory and they came up with the new design of core/wrap/materials/tension?

Oh, it’s good awful, and totally unprofessional not only from a players standpoint, also a marketing flaw.

Anyone have any experience with an Ibanez Artcore hollow body bass? I see one local for $220. Never played a hollow body. Should have when we were at More Music.

I have a semi-hollow Ibby AGB-200*. I call it a poor man's EB-2. Like it fine for situations that call for a UB-which I don't play.

*0218191704-00.jpg has nylons on it.
