Yes, but it also makes me wonder if it would be possible to replace ceramic magnets with alnico.?? would this be for building / winding pickups from scratch?
BTW it was Philadelphia Luthier Supply I was thinking of.

Although I didn't use its tone section at the gig I played recently, the other two bands (both P basses) went direct into it and it sounded very good. Sounded like a really balanced range. And yes, plenty of oomf for a small club show, so it should have way more than enough for your living room.Hmmmm, in my quest for a living room friendly amp/cab I forgot all about the Ampeg micro vr stack. IIRC they are a 200watt SS amp with a 210 sealed cab. That should have plenty of oomph for living room playing. The price looks good too.
I’ve never tried one, are they any good sounding or is it just all bottom end farts and heavy mid range?

I run 1 or 2 of the 210AV cabs for most of my gigs, often with a GK MB200. I stayed away from the matching Ampeg Micro VR amp because I'd heard of intermittent reliability issues.Hmmmm, in my quest for a living room friendly amp/cab I forgot all about the Ampeg micro vr stack. Is it my imagination or does it have a bit of a Kansas feel?
I wish the bass were up more in the mix, but otherwise I really like this. A bit like Jethro Tull meets Kansas.
Nice playing, Dylan! I like it, reminds me quite pleasantly of Jethro Tull.
Awesome!
I just had a Yes flashback.![]()
Kansas but what a great band to be influenced by.
Nice! Sounded really good through my headphones/PC.
Pretty cool!
Sounds great, Dylan. And thanks for giving multiple listening options!
yessir…….

I’m thinking the Santa Cruz venue might be cool from both a performance and audience standpoint (a college town is the perfect draw for this band).View attachment 5224240
North American tour coming your way! I'm jealous!!!
That mock organ sounded darn good, if you hadn’t mentioned it I wouldn’t have caught it. Your bass playing was quite nice as well, just wish it was more forward in the mix. When Duck plays that song he’s very much the lead instrument occasionally giving way to the organ or drums, but he’s definitely in the drivers seat.Speaking of "Time Is Tight"(unfortunately, I'm using an Epi EB-3L-the 67 TBird was in the shop)[note "organ"-Ron's guitar through EHX B9]
Nice! The faux organ sounds good.
I like this version too.
I kinda lean more to the deep creamy smooth end vs the lower mid tight punchy end. So I’m still on the fence on this one. I’ll have to check out the local GC to see if they have one I can try.Although I didn't use its tone section at the gig I played recently, the other two bands (both P basses) went direct into it and it sounded very good. Tonight's house amp is the MarkBass 210 combo.
My normal volumes are typically shake the windows territory, so this might be good news.Had the limited edition red version in my small home office. It was very well balanced at low volumes and at shake the window volumes.
The cabs are what I’m most hesitant about, I’ve experienced exactly what you mentioned with sealed 10’s before. My original hunt was for something with dual 12’s in a ported enclosure as I felt that would best deliver my creamy low end goals, I’m not really after punch on this rig.I run 1 or 2 of the 210AV cabs for most of my gigs, often with a GK MB200. Small sealed 210 cabs do not make a lot of low end, so I suggest trying them out before buying. you may want something ported.
See if you can find a Genz Benz cab.I kinda lean more to the deep creamy smooth end vs the lower mid tight punchy end. So I’m still on the fence on this one. I’ll have to check out the local GC to see if they have one I can try.

Looks an awful lot like one of these cases...Don’t know for sure, but I assume it’s TKL, although it doesn’t say TKL anywhere. It has a made in Canada label. The hardware and handle are the same as what is on the smaller Canadian TKL made Epiphone case that came with my Pelham Blue LE Custom Shop reverse. The interior lining, exterior Tolex, and the construction are all the same.
Interior is 52” long, 15” wide (23 1/2” long bottom section). The exterior is 53 3/4” long, 17 1/2” wide, 4 inches deep.
@godofthunder59 may know for sure as he owned the bass early on.

until soon, this is what I’ve been using lately…..retubed it about 5years ago with a matched NOS quartet (can’t recall if Philips or Telefunken) pure joy through the 4 x 8”..,I’m thinking the Santa Cruz venue might be cool from both a performance and audience standpoint (a college town is the perfect draw for this band).

An interesting and fresh take on a great song. Also interesting to hear other bassists style of playing on this song, the clash bassist has a great sound overall but unfortunately I’m not hearing the bass note definition like the original.

IIRC, there are two that look very similar. One is 100W and the other is 200W; both with a matching 210.Hmmmm, in my quest for a living room friendly amp/cab I forgot all about the Ampeg micro vr stack. That isn't evidence that your brain isn't faulty.IIRC, there are two that look very similar. One is 100W and the other is 200W; both with a matching 210.
But my brain could also be faulty...
Nope, not faulty brain.

Nope, don't believe that. The recording is an audio copy of a video shot live on a gig.I’m thinking the Santa Cruz venue might be cool from both a performance and audience standpoint (a college town is the perfect draw for this band).

yessir….TT (btw)…Thank you all! I do wish the bass had been a bit higher, or at least mixed with more of the mids and high-end, but I think it works for the song as is. All the mentions of Kansas are funny, our drummer loves Point of Know Return and has recently got me listening to them more, but for years all I knew were Dust in the Wind and Carry on My Wayward Son. At least for me, Jethro Tull with Glenn Cornick are a large influence in playing, love his work with them, and later with Wild Turkey and Paris. His playing on Living in the Past, Teacher, Bouree, Look Into the Sun, Nothing is Easy, To Cry You a Song, Nazarene, Black Book, etc is all fantastic. Come to think of it, as much as I'm influenced by Geddy, Squire, Entwistle, Bruce, etc, my playing and bass line writing probably does drift more toward Cornick's.
Oooh boy. BaCH? Where's the guard from?
so glad you’re back….IIRC, there are two that look very similar. One is 100W and the other is 200W; both with a matching 210.
