See if you can find a Genz Benz cab.
I’ll take a look, thx.

until soon, this is what I’ve been using lately…..retubed it about 5years ago with a matched NOS quartet (can’t recall if Philips or Telefunken) pure joy through the 4 x 8”..,

Do love the concept of the Little Bastard, never played one, but I suspect even at 30watts (IIRC) it’ll be plenty loud enough for high volume in-home playing. Most of the Ashdown heads I’ve played through as well as the 210 Mag300 combo I used to own were nicely voiced on the bottom end (deep creamy lows if needed) without sacrificing any mids or top end. Is the little bastard in line with those? If I got one, I’d probably end up pairing it with a high efficiency ported 212 cab of some sort.

Although I didn't use its tone section at the gig I played recently, the other two bands (both P basses) went direct into it and it sounded very good. Sounded like a really balanced range. And yes, plenty of oomf for a small club show, so it should have way more than enough for your living room.

Tonight's house amp is the MarkBass 210 combo.

Wish I could make tonight’s gig.
Damn court tomorrow ruins everything.

Someone can correct me if im wrong, but original run tbird pickups (& current RI, & boutique builders) use blade magnets, as opposed to the ceramic magnet with steel blades of the modern type.

My guess, is the Dominators will have a lot more clarity in their tone like originals, yet still perhaps remain close to a level of dark low mids like the moderns. Probably the bridge between both RI & modern bird pickups.

Quoting myself because i forgot to say somethings:

@Ringhammer, if you do, let us know how they perform in comparison to the other pickuos in your birds. Definitely curious how different they sound from 60s repros & modern ones.

I'm still aiming for the gibson vintage RIs for my treebird. Feel its my better option going with Alinco 5 magnet blades & gain clarity. Vs the modern ceramic magnet/steel blades.

I’ll take a look, thx.

It’s always nice to finish a Thunderbird project. I bought this ‘09 Epi Limited Edition Custom shop five years ago. I didn’t pay much for it. Maybe $250 with shipping? The bolt-on neck was removed to reduce the shipping cost. It has been a work in progress. I’m only slightly faster than Will @Gaolee getting projects completed.

It came to me missing the original black pickguard. A prior owner put a white one on it. The inserts were popping up and I had to glue both sides with Titebond. The neck pocket needed shimming to get my preferred low action.

But at its core, it’s a great Thunderbird. The neck is straight, the TR adjusts freely, and it has has perfect fretwork. It has the limited pickups found in only a few select runs of the Custom Shops. They are pretty special as George @GBassNorth found when he played my similar white one. The tuners are nice. The electronics are fine. The finish is in very good condition.

I wanted to revert it back to having a black pickguard. So I had Irv @Engle make one for it. With a chrome Thunderbird emblem. And a matching TR cover with a chrome Epi logo. Pictures don’t do Irv’s amazing work justice. But it pops in person.

So here she is. Chrome Dreams.

Beautiful! It reminds me of my Pro.
I’m coming dangerously close to ordering these to go in my black VP.

Dominator Thunderbird bass pickup, 4 or 5 string, alnico 8, vintage tone

Then, the Novaks in that will go into the ‘03 white ‘bird, and the Lollars in that go into the ‘01 burst ‘bird, and the Gibsons reissues (the only chrome ones I have, all the rest are nickel), will go on the black ‘97 ‘bird.

I’m curious about the A8 magnets as well as the blade type magnets.
i cannot speak for the closeness of tone to the originals, but the customer service is top notch!

Right you lovely lot, I've picked up a Greco (IV type) and have spent longer than I wanted mucking about with my ½" post Hipshot Ultralites to discover that the bushings are so much bigger than the originals I thought I'd ask: do the ⅜" Ultralites/bushings fit in the existing holes on a Greco headstock? I'd rather not do things to this bass at this end of it - got a different hard tail to go on it and I'm also wondering if anyone has taken the simple route and used these locking posts with their 3-point bridges instead of going all drill press on their basses?
