Thunderbird Club

The instructor/professor (Mike) was a showman in that respect. When I taught art, I never felt the need to use that tact.., I relied on my sincerity of intent to delivery my message. Some students "got it" ... most struggled with it, which was also ok as long as they continued to be inquisitive. Everyone has the capacity to "get it" at varying levels as long as you help guide them to the realization. Your have to have a lot of patience to be an instructor, but relying on your realized/known experience is always your North Star.
it is what it is….,could be wrong but I’ve often sensed a “we contribute to the final. outcome as well” type syndrome……

And yet when I was there-as a 'guest' of the USN-everyone in the Navy called it Yokooska. IDK why.
I know about that. The issue is that we have multiple ways to pronounce vowels in English. All vowels in Japanese are pronounced one way. ‘O’ is always long and pronounced like in the word oh.

I just looked up "cute" in the dictionary and this band is pictured! (the Japanese own the concept)

North American tour coming your way! I'm jealous!!!

I’m coming dangerously close to ordering these to go in my black VP.

Dominator Thunderbird bass pickup, 4 or 5 string, alnico 8, vintage tone

Then, the Novaks in that will go into the ‘03 white ‘bird, and the Lollars in that go into the ‘01 burst ‘bird, and the Gibsons reissues (the only chrome ones I have, all the rest are nickel), will go on the black ‘97 ‘bird.

I’m curious about the A8 magnets as well as the blade type magnets.

Someone can correct me if im wrong, but original run tbird pickups (& current RI, & boutique builders) use blade magnets, as opposed to the ceramic magnet with steel blades of the modern type.

My guess, is the Dominators will have a lot more clarity in their tone like originals, yet still perhaps remain close to a level of dark low mids like the moderns. Probably the bridge between both RI & modern bird pickups.

Once I get recording dialed in, I’ll do some. With something simple like Time is Tight.

The Pbass tone on this, in a football stadium, is marvelous.

Speaking of "Time Is Tight"(unfortunately, I'm using an Epi EB-3L-the 67 TBird was in the shop)[note "organ"-Ron's guitar through EHX B9]

I am waiting for one of these comparisons where the player plays a scale and not much else. That's it. Then you can focus on what the bass sounds like instead of thinking about what the player is playing. There's still technique differences between players, but if the strings are the same, the player is the same and playing a scale, and it's run DI into the interface, then you might actually get some useful information about the sound.
It's like they wanna show off their playing. I'm 'auditioning' the bass, not the player.

what kind is case is that?
Don’t know for sure, but I assume it’s TKL, although it doesn’t say TKL anywhere. It has a made in Canada label. The hardware and handle are the same as what is on the smaller Canadian TKL made Epiphone case that came with my Pelham Blue LE Custom Shop reverse. The interior lining, exterior Tolex, and the construction are all the same.

Interior is 52” long, 15” wide (23 1/2” long bottom section). The exterior is 53 3/4” long, 17 1/2” wide, 4 inches deep.

@godofthunder59 may know for sure as he owned the bass early on.

I was wondering about that…..

Well, well, well, just got info about those EB Rhythm/Lead pups in the RexBird: they pot the pickup in wax (allegedly) but then put that waxy lump into the pickup covers/cases. They don't pot the things directly into the covers because the heat makes the plastic covers distort. But my units did not even get the crappy pot. Hmmmmm, seems a bit shiddy to me!!! However, the bass sounds great (microphony aside) and they've also told me the original pair are mine and don't need to be returned, so: Aaron (Mr Pickup) is off on hols for a week but the gold (& chrome) covers/surrounds have arrived from Philly Luths so week after next . . . Also, had some new arrivals in my Thunderbird fambly, pics later, elbows deep in Hipshot Ultralites at the mo!

Hmmmm, in my quest for a living room friendly amp/cab I forgot all about the Ampeg micro vr stack. IIRC they are a 200watt SS amp with a 210 sealed cab. That should have plenty of oomph for living room playing. The price looks good too.
I’ve never tried one, are they any good sounding or is it just all bottom end farts and heavy mid range?
