Thunderbird Club

I'll have a look see for SITs as these seem to be "praised" by a lot of folks. have played rotos on friends basses, but idk, dont find them particularly interesting feel wise.

Thanka for the suggestions!!

SIT Power Steels are quite different from say DR, Roto or Ken Smith, they have a very prominent lo-mid/mid presence, which, with certain pickups really sound great.

Thanks! I’m thinking about seeing what they look like on the chromed out Silverburst. To fit the Epi splines though. I’ll find some…

I found the silver knobs for my VP on Reverb.

On which basses do you find the Babicz getting lower action than the Hipshot. I have to raise the saddles on my Hipshots pretty much all the way to clear the frets.
It depends on the neck angles. I have the issue with the the Supertone for Epis. The Babicz design, by its nature, can take the string almost down to the deck. There is a lot more adjustability up and down with the Babicz. Maybe the Supertone works fine on the set Gibson neck angles on the set and through neck basses. But it has been frustrating trying to use it on bolt-on Epis and dial in low string action.

Thank you @Engle for once again getting me what I needed to make my most recent ‘bird acquisition come together in the way I wanted.

1997 Gibson Thunderbird, Gibson vintage re-issues-chrome covers and rings. Babicz chrome bridge, Hipshot tuners. Just back from a fretboard leveling and new frets:

Plays and sounds pretty darn good. Looking forward to hearing it with the whole band on Monday.
You are welcome! And making me a little jealous:D - that's a beauty!

That seems like a good price for that one!
He probably could have asked $3000 for it and still only dropped a bit in price to close the sale. As it sits, if legit, it’s a rare bird with a unique three pup layout (needs trim rings, the gaps look too big). I have all the birds I need or want or I’d be all over it.

Tempted. But I’m bassed out until what I have is finished getting tweaked. And there’s my project for a 60’s reverse II tribute that I want to get serious about. And I want to have a spa day at Mesa for the Carbine sooner rather than later.

They work visually best with chrome as nickel is warmer. If using with nickel one could spray clear lacquer on them and leave them in the sunlight. Should amber sufficiently enough to look like nickel.

I noticed the gaps as well. I wonder if it came with black pickups?
