I think those super slim necks went away in the early 70’s when Norland bought Gibson.always wondered about that…..the 60’s NR necks are very slim (possibly even slimmer than the 60’s reverses), here compared to a J neck….

was it a hard learned lesson? were there more NR headstock breaks than reverse ones due to the laminations?….

But exact neck profiles in the 60’s probably depended on the worker shaping the neck.
When creating reissues, I can imagine they don’t want to put out anything that breaks easily. I don’t have an SG bass, but check out my Les Paul Tribute Doublecut vs 68 EBO.
