Thunderbird Club

Still nothing but lava lamps.
My then girlfriend (now wife), accidentally broke mine long ago. I still haven't fully recovered and remind her occasionally that I used to have a lava lamp. A few years ago she bought me one. It was junk. Sent it back for a replacement and it was junk, so I'm back to the "I used t have a lava lamp" standing.

My wife likes him a lot. I went to I think four concerts of his over the years. She went with her hardcore country friend for his farewell show in Anaheim.

My wife also got me to appreciate the Zac Brown Bad. Great live.

Zac Brown is awesome ........ Love the transition from Free to Into The Mystic.

Thought I'd put this out, no affiliation.

Went browsing in Montreal South Shore music store this evening and talked a bit with the manager, who also has his own guitar-making shop. We get around talking about Thunderbirds and Fenderbirds, nice guy very friendly and of course knowledgeable. He also mentions that one of his luthier friends has a company in the Sacramento area, that makes Firebird style guitars and also just started to make Thunderbird style basses.

Anybody familiar with these ?
Kauer Guitars
I know Doug through ReRanch (Nitro paint and refinish forum) I remember when he was just starting out doing refinishes like all of us. His family owns a cabinet making business.
He graduated to building his own guitars from scratch. He made one Thunderbird years ago. That person still has it. If I remember correctly Doug said it was a real pain in the butt to make and he was going to stick with guitars.
He also makes custom guitar racks,
They used to do a yearly GTG like this club does.

If you talk to him tell him Instagator says hi.

I was fishing on this post when I asked Joe if he still had the Kauer Thunderbird..I was hoping that he would say "Sure I still have it..do you want it?"

I still use mine..The four year old grandsons think it’s some kind of magic glass light. :)

I did some rearranging to set up for our DJB recording project, so I don't have a good spot for the lava lamps. These are cheap ones.

I wonder if this means the original lava lamps made in the ‘60’s, ‘70’s (‘50’s?) had some kind of substance that is now illegal to use, and the replacement “lava” is environmentally safe but not as “effect”-ive?

The ones I have are quite trippy if you stare at them:wacky:
And turning them on is even better...

Well, I finally pulled the trigger on some Gemini pickups. Decided to try the Devastators. Will start by putting them in a Eppi VP.

I also reached out to Gibson to see if they would sell some neck (rhythm) position NR pickups, since the offering on their website for the vintage re-issue only has bridge (lead) position pickups.

Not expecting much there.

Knowing Gibson, they'll take off the "lead" label and put on a "rhythm" sticker.:smug:
