Me circa late 1978 note the "Hoss " wardrobe. Custom made leather vest, white buttondown, and jeans, missing the cowboy boots.

Wow! That’s a lot of power in your pickup! I genuinely believe Gibson put junk pickups in Epiphone and Fender put junk pickups in Squire just to make their name branded stuff sound better by comparison. Go to a store, play both, and hear where your money’s going. Of course, £200 will fix that alone.
Guess it depends on what you’re after. For deep and dark and creamy smooth I reach for my capped Goth with the stock Eppi pickups before anything else.

I'm not a big fan of modern country (post 1978), but I saw him perform with Willie on the R$R hall of fame thing and I may give him a listen....

I like Dwight Yoakam, and that's as modern as I get... I'm not even a Hank Jr, or George Straight fan.... What year did the "outlaws" album come out? maybe the last good country album... country music died with Boxcar Willie...
I’m actually liking a lot of Alan Jackson tunes these days.

Since people liked that clip I posted of Jan Akkerman, how about if I post some more Focus?

Note Akkerman's backline: those are Fender "Super Showman" stacks, which are solid state, and yet he managed to get them to sound like that.

Now Prior to starting Focus, flautist Thijs Van Leer (and you pronounce that as "Tice Van Lair") was keyboardist for Dutch cabaret artist Ramses Shaffy, and to give you guys an idea on what kind of music he made in those days...

This epic song is about a girl falling in love with the sun. I guess this clip shows you where Focus got their artistry from.

Speaking of which: here he is explaining the backstory of "Hocus Pocus"

He mentions Castle Groeneveld in that clip. Here's footage of the band rehearsing at that Castle. It's a very fitting setting for a prog rock band, no matter how you slice it.

Thought I'd put this out, no affiliation.

Went browsing in Montreal South Shore music store this evening and talked a bit with the manager, who also has his own guitar-making shop. We get around talking about Thunderbirds and Fenderbirds, nice guy very friendly and of course knowledgeable. He also mentions that one of his luthier friends has a company in the Sacramento area, that makes Firebird style guitars and also just started to make Thunderbird style basses.

Anybody familiar with these ?

Boutique and pricey, but I hear they are nice. I have never seen one in person yet but I see them turn up in a lot of pro players live shots on Facebook.

My wife likes him a lot. I went to I think four concerts of his over the years. She went with her hardcore country friend for his farewell show in Anaheim.

My wife also got me to appreciate the Zac Brown Bad. Great live.

Nope. Let’s ask @Erik Rollain.
