Thunderbird Club

An in-focus pic from Sunday night as promised - I appear to be 'concerned' about something  :D

Or intently measuring something. Counting an out of time passage to keep the entrance back into time straight, maybe? The drummer appears to be watching whatever you are doing pretty carefully, so maybe that's it. His drum kit looks like a small-ish bop kit. It is great to see a smaller kit like that on stage. There's not much need for a huge kit most of the time.

I'll accept that explanation! :) The Pearl set is the clubs backline kit and yes, no reason for it to be any bigger. They also have a big heavy Markbass combo bass amp which is used by metal bands that play there - I brought my own 1x15 w/30w tube amp. Everything's d.i.'d into their substantial FOH so no need for anything bigger. I had the amp volume at 11:00 and bass controls at 1/2 way and it was plenty loud enough.

I love that quote and have been able use it on occasion in the hopes of helping to prevent bad/emotional thinking. One of those "cut to the chase" statements. At times, our problems are not as complex as we would like to think.
I work very hard at making my problems as complex as possible. I expect my problems to be acknowledged as complex and of my own making!

I can imagine.

I've heard really good guitar players say it's easier to play guitar and sing than play bass and sing. I can't really do either, so I don't know. But it was something about strumming was generally normal rhythm and bass often plays things in between the normal beats and is often less predictable. Not exactly how I've heard it worded, but something like that. May not even be true. But I can't imagine playing what GL does and having to sing on top of that. Incredible.

I mostly only played rhythm guitar. If the rhythms were simple, I could sing. Singing and playing complex rhythms or lead was beyond me. I haven't seriously tried to sing and play bass. Of course, teh way allergies have done my voice for some years now, there's not much point, anyway...

I've said something similar for ages. The first part is one of my most hated trite responses.

It just got added to the places my wife and I need to go someday. Maybe sooner than later. It's breathtakingly beautiful. Plus, if Cousteau liked it, it has to be a great place to dive.

Clouseau liked it as well. What does that tell you? Besides to look for his boss in a corner, gibbering and chewing on his elbows.

That depends on the music. Some music just demands a big, deep bass drum. Not that Geo's bands' music does.

You would be surprised at how powerful a small kick drum can sound. I have a little Ludwig Breakbeats kit and the 16" kick drum is an absolute cannon. It's pretty surprising how big it can sound with the right heads and the right tuning.

I knew a zen-like fellow motorcyclist who said there was (to him) no such thing as an accident, that if one was 100% present the things we call accidents wouldn't occur. I understand his logic but being 100% 100% of the time would be, lets say... very difficult unless meditating full time on top of a mountain.
