Thanks for the help all. Will try the Hipshot bridge then.
Any links or recommendations for a new strap button so I can place on the back? Want to cure neck dive.
Are Greco tuners easy to replace btw? Any drop in replacements?
New to the modding stuff. Pickups are not even and a little wonky. Worried about the truss rod too. Haven’t checked it yet.
Thought about returning it and investing in a real Gibson thunderbird if I start spending more on mods. I paid about a grand for the Greco used.
Too low an octane. Baklava is a secondary driver though.I thought that was the liquid you make....
I would have them verify the s/n.
They ('76-'79) are a totally different animal. Pickups are way different and so sound best when your pushing a bit of volume through a big rig, they can be rather underwhelming at low volume through a small rig.
It's on my calendar!Okay, it looks like July is going to be the month for the Seattle GTG, my goal is to be off from work 7/23-8/2 in total thinking we'd have most folks between 7/25-7/29. I'd figure we can plan some day activities as we figure who will be here and when. Lots to do, music stores to visit, Airplane museum, maybe a visit to Bill's to see some excellent '60-70 Pontiacs and BSA's. The Thunderbirds and amps will be in the basement, The Nasty Habits could come over and you guys can play along, using my basses and amps. I live near Sea-Tac so lots of places to stay nearby, lots of food too! Please feel free to PM me

Also, I think I am going to star calling your basement the Lowdown. Or Down Low. Hmmm...
What V said. But I find I don't need loud or really pushing it to get good tone from my '76--but V and I don't shoot for the same tone target or and similar rigs.
I would add that if you find something offered as a '76 to check the serial numbers (as V mentioned). Often if that range of bass has a '76 pick guard (the feet), people think it's a '76. That pick guard was was used well beyond 1976, how far I don't know. I messaged a seller on Reverb the other day who was advertising a Thunderbird as a '76 when it was not. I mentioned to him I was just wanting to help avoid a person buying a '76 and looking at the S# or pot codes and finding it is not--and then not having warm feelings toward him. In fact, I've done that a few times with sellers. They either don't reply and keep it listed as before or say "thanks for the info" but keep the listing as is. I think most list simply not knowing and is an honest mistake. When it's been suggested the seller might want to run the numbers/codes and still persists with incorrect listing info, I kind throw out the "honest mistake" part.... So do your own homework, as V said.
Cool shots! My final gig with my band before I quit.

I've had the same experience. Why is integrity so hard for some people?

Because “winning” is celebrated as being the most important thing?I've had the same experience. Why is integrity so hard for some people?
you’re on…..we can then Cannonball to FLA and visit Plaid..That really does look good. I've seen far worse with less miles. Should make it to Kentucky just fine. Just sayin'.... But bring the AMX as well....![]()
Loudest concert I was ever at....
beautiful collection Dude! It’s gone. Just as well, I have too many basses, and a really good collection of Thunderbirds. My goal is to stop buying and at least consider selling some stuff. Problem is is that I have sold all but one I want to get rid of, and although many don’t get much use at the moment, I feel like I’d regret selling anything I currently have. Just because I’m not using it now doesn’t mean it won’t get used. Especially since I’m in an exclusive Thunderbird mode at the moment. My late 60’s/early 70’s Fender P’s and J’s (and a couple Tele’s), a Ric 4003, some fretless Fenders, short scale Fenders, and 5-string Ric 4003s/5, are all good tools to have.
Some short scale Gibson Thunderbirds came up recently and one was a good price. I should have swooped it, but it was bad timing money wise. I guess that’s the only real item I want to get my hands on.
So Thunderbird Thursday!

All my Gibsons, from left to right:
1995, Lollars, Ken Smith Bass Burners, 115-55, tuned D-Standard.
1997, Gibson re-issues, Ken Smith Metal Masters, 110-50, tuned Eb.
2001, Thunderbuckers, SIT Nickel Rock Brights, 110-50, tuned Eb.
2003, Curtis Novaks, EBCF 105-50, tuned E-Standard.
2001, Lollars, Dean Markley Blue Steels (that have been on a few other basses and around for a long time), 105-50, tuned E-Standard.
…and not pictured:
2017 white VP, with its original 760’s and TI PowerBass 107-80-68-47, tuned E-Standard. (THIS string set on this bass is pure magic, perfect feel and tone for my fingers and ears).
2022 black VP, Gemini Devastators, GHS 115-50, tuned Eb. Still trying to figure this one out, I just can’t seem to get this one where I want it. It’s likely I’ll probably put the 760’s back in and sell.
I read this quote once and kept it. The original article was dealing with why some academics are so willing to in some way or another misrepresent or selectively use or report findings/research (because of the gained prestige, notoriety, financial grants and book deals...), and this was a more general rationale that was deemed applicable due to the same underlying human motivation.I've had the same experience. Why is integrity so hard for some people?
