Held off on discussing the pedal I brought home until I could play it with my basses and board. As I had hoped (and honestly expected), it works great. Wampler makes a straight up Klon Centaur clone, the Tumnus. They also make this, a Centaur on steroids. The extra tone shaping is useful, and for even more drive, the HOT switch is great. I doubt I’ll use that at church(but who knows?) but if I eventually get into a band situation, it could be useful. I’d been looking for an overdrive when I found the MXR Bass Distortion in the classifieds here, and decided to give it a shot. It’s a good pedal, but for my current use an overdrive is much better. I can get grind from my rig even without this pedal, but it lets me put more grind (especially when not playing a Greco) into the phaser and the preamp input.

And a five year warranty for a built in the USA product (they would say “Made in USA” but current law requires them to source all components from USA manufacturers to say that)? Wow. It came with a Energizer battery installed by Wampler (standard for their pedals that can use batteries, apparently). Who does that?

Cool! Looks good as well. Interested in your impressions after a few goes with it live.

He seemed to be a helluva motivator.
Yes. He was fantastic. Had a very unique persona. Kind of intimidating and gruff with a very gravelly voice, with a pipe often hanging out. He was quirky--as was his whole family it seemed. Had he stayed at UM or even here, he would have racked up more championships. I was never entirely sure why he left here. Likely something as odd as his "unique" wife just wanting to live in FL again. If I were in the military, I would want him as CO. He would have fit right in with a MacArthur and Patton with his quirky flare, in addition to never having it questioned that when he was in the room he was in charge.

This guy (Howard Schnellenberger), from Louisville put Miami football on the map after going there in '79 to a dead program they were considering canceling. He did the same thing here at UofL as well--just no national championship. Told the people here what needed to happen to be a ranked team and they did some of it and "knew better" with other parts, but were put into place with the results he said--but after he left. Howard was an odd dude--but he knew what he was talking about. Loved that guy. Always wore a suit and cowboy boots. Well, very often I should say.

So why is the Wizard of Oz holding up a glass football?

SO.. In keeping with my promise to a poor ebay company. I will trash their reputation every chance I get.

just prior to Christmas I purchased a NEW bridge for one of my treble geetars.

The company GUITARAUDIO on ebay... sent me an extremely used and abused bridge.

total cost was over $300 with tax.

I returned the trash, and they have since ignored me and have not issued a refund.

I had to contact ebay to get my refund issued.

do not spend your hard earned money with GUITARAUDIO on the internet or on ebay.

Hate to hear that, but good for the rest of us to know. Thanks for taking one for the team.

That Quatermass trip made me listen to Deep Purple's Fireball. There were connections: Mick Underwood played with Gillan, John Gustafson with the Ian Gillan Band and Peter Robinson on a later Gillan solo album. Gus even replaced both Gillan & Glover in Episode Six (Underwood was a member) when they joined Purple.
And of course Blackmore wanted to cover "Black Sheep Of The Family" and got his way on the first Rainbow album.
Anyway, Fireball is an underrated classic and I especially like the B-side. "No One Came" is Gillan at his best. No screaming, just great singing and tonque in cheek lyrics.

Love the big, dark, farty bass intro to "No One Came". Such a simple device, that pedal note feels like straight downbeats until the ensemble kicks in.
