Thunderbird Club

Started the football team there not long after leaving here, and in a few years won the conference championship. It wasn't the SEC, but still a huge achievement.
We had a brilliant Basketball coach here, Pat Douglas, who won some Division II titles at CSUB. He went on to my alma mater, UCI, and got nowhere. GPA requirements were too tough. It’s either a great academic school, or it isn’t.

What makes the matchup tonight interesting, is that both are good schools. With decent standards. So maybe we are getting priorities back in line?

Yeah. But a headstock that can actually pop a cap? Epic.

Been done...

That's actually a good price - there are two on Reverb for over $1k - Edwards and Grass Roots are subsidiaries of ESP... my Grass Roots (not my favorite brand name, which is why I had a custom decal made) Bass IV is a great playing/sounding bass. ESP introduced it in the late '90s as a Tetsuya signature model, (Tetsuya plays bass for the Japanese band L'Arc-en-ciel) and later brought out an Edwards and Grass Roots version. Same bass with the same body/neck/pu's/electronics but cheaper hardware. When I got mine I upgraded all the cheap bits.

That Quatermass trip made me listen to Deep Purple's Fireball. There were connections: Mick Underwood played with Gillan, John Gustafson with the Ian Gillan Band and Peter Robinson on a later Gillan solo album. Gus even replaced both Gillan & Glover in Episode Six (Underwood was a member) when they joined Purple.
And of course Blackmore wanted to cover "Black Sheep Of The Family" and got his way on the first Rainbow album.
Anyway, Fireball is an underrated classic and I especially like the B-side. "No One Came" is Gillan at his best. No screaming, just great singing and tonque in cheek lyrics.

I love those Deep Purple albums with Ian Gillian singing!
“No one came from miles around and said Man who’s he?”

Who knows. These all list now with the wider 1.73 nut. They did some for a few years with a 1.5 nut, although probably 95% of them ever made have the wider nut. And the width doesn’t matter that much to me. I’m dazed and confused. But I love all my Epis. IMO, best bang for the buck.
My 2012 is 1.5”.

If you’re still keep spreadsheets on who Frank needs to sell basses to in the event of your unfortunate demise, I respectfully request to be at the top o the list for that one. It’s always been my favorite
I asked a while back and probably wasn’t the first. I’d be willing to joust with wet pool noodles on a 12” wide plank ten feet over a swimming pool for it.

What’s wrong with the Grass Roots brand?

My 2018 has the 1.5 neck.

I’d clean that up and rock it!

It's a mid-late '60s short-scale Silvertone 1442 which had a single N lipstick pu. The bridge pu on that bass was added as well as a couple pots. (top two) It's a more economy version of the 34" scale Silvertone 1443 with two lipstick pu's - I have two of them. A Dano in Sears clothing.

I tried out a couple of pedals at the local GC tonight. The walls were covered with guitars and basses, which made me happy after a couple years of supply chain deficit. They had no Thunderbirds, which did not make me happy. They did, however, have two Jack Cassidy basses- one red, one blue. I grabbed the red, of course, as they sound better. You can get a ridiculous variety of tones out of that pickup! The neck’s a bit bigger than I like, but that was my only complaint. I may have to get one later. Sounded and played great. I played through a Rumble, so one less variable in the equation. I took one pedal home and the other was ordered. I’d planned to buy the second from Sweetwater because the website said they didn’t have any in stock. But one of the employees had bought their last one today, and let me try it out, so I bought it there.

As I’ve noted before, I really like our GC. Staffed by friendly, helpful musicians who care.
