Yea no Problem. It may have not been the correct way to Refin the Guitar, but it worked great for me. First I used a "Epoxy Paint remover" to remove that thick Glossy finish on the Bass. 2nd Stripped it with a razor. 3rd used 200 Grit Sand Paper on a Drill and sanded off the paint. 4th I hand sanded the Bass to level the body with some more sand paper of 200, 400, 800 then 1000 grit before the stain. 5th I used a mix of Water & Black Ink (from Staples) for the stain. After mixing I found the right color I wanted, then I started to Stain the Bass & let it dry in the Sun (80°f) for 24hrs. 6th light sanded the top of the Bass with 2000 grit paper. 7th give it a 2nd coat of light black Stain over the top and let it dry for a whole day. 8th I used Tung Oil for a semi Gloss to protect the Stain. 3 light Coat is all u need. Give it one coat every 24hrs & let it dry for 24hrs before u resemble the Project. It took me 6weeks to start and finish. Just because I only had 1hour a day to work on it. Before I went all buggo for 'Birds, my gigging basses were a pair of late 80's MIJ Fender Jazz Bass Specials.
(Think Duff McKagan from G'n'R...). TBX Tone circuits were stock on these basses. It REALLY makes a difference.
I'm considering having a TBX installed in my new-to-me T-Bird Classic...

Do you have any sound examples?

I'll have that soon and will post when I do. The TBX is a simple, cheap and effective mod. Anyone with basic soldering skills can drop one in in place of your tone pot. They are sold on ebay w/a capacitor and a white Fender knob. (more for Strats the knob) It's functionally a stacked pot w/a single shaft and center detent. First 1/2 sounds like what you are replacing (basic tone pot) and the second 1/2 adds a bit of bite, or high-end or punch.., not rocket science or earth shaking but a nice added variety of tone options w/o getting fancy. It's not like a Tonestyler with click-by-click tone distinction (also good - passive and easy to install, but more costly) At around $12, if you don't care for the TBX, it's easy to revert back to a standard tone pot.

Have you guys seen this video before???


It has made me feel a bit wary of whether or not to go for the USA thunderbird or seek out an orville....it has that 60's vibe and tone. I know a few people here have both... There are usually a few nice ones floating around. Would getting one shipped be risky with its massive headstock? I wouldn't think so but you never know.... They go for about 1000 bucks less than a USA.
