Thunderbird Club

I bought the Lull NRT4 from another Matt who lives near me in the SF Bay Area. It was built in 2013 by Mike Lull and it looks like its been living under someone's bed for 10 years; this guitar is literally as if brand new. I've been playing FSOs for most of my music playing life and buying this guitar was a departure from my FSO playing ways. I truly am smitten. I think it sounds terrific in a different way from my other main players - a Fender P and a Nordy vJ5. It's tone is rounder, warmer, tastier to my ears. I also think it looks cool as hell, especially for my current project, psy-space rock music.
Little known secret, Thunderbirds sound fantastic in Country, Church, Blues, Classic Rock, Punk, Metal, Big Band, Pop. You name it, it can do it and do it well. One dude here occasionally can be seen slapping the crap out of one!

I've actually seen a very few of these going for serious money. More than you might think. And this guy has been selling top-notch vintage instruments for a long time, often to people like Geddy Lee and others. Possibly holding out for Geddy to scrape up enough to put it on lay-away.:smug:

He's in Ft. Lauderdale, Mike ought to just head over and buy it!

I spent some real time with it before the game today and walked away smiling. Besides being feather light, the neck feels good, and I turned off the deep switch and turned on the hi switch on my SushiBox Slampegg and there it was, full spectrum tone with subtle growl to let you know you're playing a Thunderbird. The DiColas are deep and full, lots of mids, and some nice, smooth highs, with a touch of growl. There are so many tones in this thing, I'm sure I can always find a tone to fit the room, and knob twiddlers would be in heaven. They are also very responsive to plucking location in a very pleasing, solid way. I may need to brush up on picking just for this bass, it would take the tone to another to another level for stuff like Cult, Grand Funk, etc.

Photos still not good, I need natural light, light snow/rain here today. But you can see how it compares to a VP, fits nicely in my GigBlade. I'm so glad I jumped on the DiColas.

Excellent Thump! Add a Babicz and you’ll have a de facto ‘15. I find with stainless steels, it gets the Thunderbird tone in spades with both taps off. Lots of tone available with the taps on or off.

I have a Babicz but it's chrome, does anyone have a black they want to exchange for it? I'll bide my time, when a black one hits the classifieds, I'll jump on it. I do have a set of DR Fatbeams I'm going to try on it.

Actually, I'm in touch with Guitar Broker about selling him my Les Paul 5er. Great bass, I just never play it.

Hmmm. Identical description. But $10k price discrepancy. Hmmm... I guess the $10k extra for the other one is a "mintest" tax.
