Thunderbird Club

I'm curious how different the DeColas sound from the TB+, all else being equal.
Same boat a @Gaolee
2015 bird with La Bella blacks on DeCola pups
2013 EB5 with NYXLs on DeCola pups

I had XLs on the bird for a short period, the two basses sound different, same family but different with the bird being a bit darker and more mellow. The EB a tad brighter and a hair more aggressive and a bit louder as well. I think the coil tap is different in the two basses so that might be part of it. The EB has a more drastic difference in sound between tap on and off. EB pups are spaced virtually identical to the bird pups, so probably no difference attributed to that.

I may get an inexpensive interface for my iPad for my birthday. If so, I’ll try to do some samples. To me, with taps off, it sounds closer to the ‘21 NR with the Alnico vintage reissues. Which makes sense as the DeColas are Alnico V. With both taps on, it gets close to J Bass territory, without the burpiness. Neck tap off, bridge tap on is a PJish tone that I think blends better than the standard 7ender PJ setup. I actually like this mode almost as much as I like the full hum-bucking mode.

The Apogee Jam is relatively inexpensive and works really well. The Teisco Interface pedal is even cheaper and also works really well.

Still probably my favorite version:

This is the back cover of the 1980 LP (I played on) "Dust My Broom" isn't on the LP but was included on the CD.

Maybe there's a cap in the coil tap circuit like the LP Tribute has?

Those look more substantial than Earasers. But, same problem if you drop one.

I bought these a couple of years ago, seem to work well for me - but I don't use them on-stage, just got them for going to concerts/festivals

Reasonably? easy to hear people talking with them in, but cuts down the loud volumes a bit

:)

I love my Mustang Micro for quiet practice. I know it can be used as an interface, but I haven't tried that yet.
I know the effects/sims are mostly geared for guitar. It wouldn’t take much for them to take some of what are in the Rumble Studio 25 practice amp and put them in what could be called a Rumble Micro. Once again, bass players getting the short end of the stick.

I'm very happy with the '65 Deluxe amp setting. Maybe reserve judgement until you've tried one.
