To metric or not?
Currently pencil editing page 266 out of 451 of the first typewritten draft of a sci-fi novel where there’s a discussion of a woman’s figure and what sized dress she should purchase-
So previously in the novel, the distances in space were given either in AU, LY, or parsecs; and those of space stations in meters or kilometers (for a really big one). I’ve no question about that.
Assuming that measurements were standardized by the ensuing time between here and tomorrow when astronomical distances could be traversed in a reasonable time, allowing for interstellar travel and colonization-
But what of a woman’s figure? Will the measurements of 91.44 - 60.96 - 91.44 go over as well as 36-24-36?
By the way the 36-24-36 ideal is based on a height of 5’4”.
To keep with that proportion with a woman of 6’1” as with the one in the novel, the measurements would have to be roughly 41-27-41. Imagine the centimeters for that one!
By the way, she walks out of the store with a 6T-
By the way, to achieve the proper ratio you multiply height in inches or cm by 0.375 to get waist size, then multiply that by 1.5 to get bust and hip size.
With that said, rest assured that this study was done strictly in the interest of science …fiction, that is.
A humorous aside- when I was trying to recommend my Midori Traveler’s notebook to a friend, a former chemical engineer and partner in music, saw the calculations and said, “Let me get a picture of that!”
