Sometimes I use a quarter to play guitar. Something I long ago read Billy Gibbons did (but used a peso). Possibly never true or rarely true. It does make for a different sound, but never liked it playing bass.Chris Squire once said he used a US quarter to get certain sounds.
Yes.Ah, general population, how you never let me down. Only 5-6 threads currently cooking about how you need a P bass
Maybe I should start a thread, just to index the P bass threads. I shall call it “P basses sound like wet dog farts”
I use Fender mediums and typically drill three holes in them (and hold the pick almost upside down). Miles gave me the idea of drilling holes several years ago so they are rightly named, "The Miles Pick."Let's talk picks again
I know V listed out her favorites at one point
I use Fender Mediums a lot, and 1.14mm Tortex when I want a bit thicker sound
I have started drilling holes in them. I'm a pick chucker too
Yes, that was good advice you offered. Kind of like in the work world. You work around and have bosses and at times learn little good other than how not to be a leader/boss and how not to treat people. We don't like them, but you wisely point out that we can still learn and grow from them.Yeah. All the false starts and bad situations have just made me a better player.
I don't like the sound of nylon picks--which can have great texture for grip. So I drill holes in celluloid picks, which helps when your finger and thumb get a little sweaty and a slick pick wants to start sliding and moving round. Really helps. That's why I started playing with the top "corner" instead of the pointy part decades ago. I found holding it like that minimized it spinning in my fingers. Tends to stay put better IME.gotta try that…can’t stand that feeling of the pick slipping away….
never heard of that and wanna try……is there an “optimal” placement pattern for the holes that works best for you? or are the holes drilled randomly? how many? can you share a pic or two pls?..I don't like the sound of nylon picks--which can have great texture for grip. I need to make some more and don't have any at home, so no pic. But, from Ken's pic below think one about at the line of the back of the turtle's head, corresponding hole on the opposite side and in the center at the top of the word Flex. When I do three holes, I use 1/8ths generally. I have done 4 holes with the forth being centered above the two and corresponding to the one below the two. I also have one with a single 1/4in hole in the center of where your thumb would be. This actually works about as well. Experiment on an old one and see how you like it. If you don't use some kind of jig or clamp...they will get away from you. But a heavy set of side cutter pliers works pretty well. Not needle nose.never heard of that and wanna try……is there an “optimal” placement pattern for the holes that works best for you? or are the holes drilled randomly? how many? can you share a pic or two pls?..
That could be fun for the pick players here who like cutouts for grip. Cut out little Thunderbird logos.@Engle Irv, I don't know a thing about 3D printers and assume the material is limited, but could you make custom picks? I'm not asking for some as I like my Fenders just fine, just wondering what the possibilities are. Maybe that's not even interesting to think about. Likely no reason to reinvent the wheel.
Not at this point. You’re a lot younger than me. Heck, just going to see Nikki last Thursday night was tough. But very fun. I hit the “office” at 6:00 and sign off at 5:00 - 5:30. With the stress of what I do, it’s tough. Growing old is getting old.
'Cos people are bonkers over the tri-five Chevys and Camaros, Challengers, and Mustangs. None of which interest me in the least.I was watching a Mecum from 2023 and couldn't believe someone didn't buy this. Very reasonable. A fraction of the cost of one of bazillion Mustangs, Camaros and late '50s Chevys. This thing is gorgeous and a head-turner. Can't imagine cruzin down the road in this. The side view is amazing.

this singer is 66….sets up his PA almost nightly…. full time pro……also FWIW, the guitar player in Bad Lemon is almost 63. He’s now in two bands. However, he just draws pictures all day for work:

so many incredible cars get crappy wraps….good thing, makes them more available to us……I was watching a Mecum from 2023 and couldn't believe someone didn't buy this. Very reasonable.
