Thunderbird Club

You have a very beautiful beast, man.

Thanks I used last night with new tecamp 2x12 cabinet. Very nice and the cab only weigh 41lbs. While it will never replace an 8 x10 or a large, multi cab system, it did a great job. Paired with the Orange head, ear candy 1x12 it was able to fill the room nicely. I let a friend in another band use it, so I was able to hear it action. The whole thing, head & 2 cabs weighs less than 100lbs and I was glad for it. The gig was up two flights of stairs with a two landings/bends in the stairway! :woot:

The new (to me) T-Bird was awesome as well. Compared to my 2006 t-bird, the cherry one is lighter and there is something different about the body shape I think. It will slip out of a fitted Gibson case ( I have two and it does the same for each) unless I put a towel in to take up space. Also I did two, active sweaty sets (my...ummmm... "technique", if you well is pretty neanderthal like) and I got ZERO wrist burn. None. Not even a mark. My other bird would tear up my right wrist. A keeper for sure!

Everything I know about Portland, I learned from Portlandia. So where can you get the best artisanal light bulbs in Portland and is it convenient to a knot shop?

Love the Portlandia - "once you go dub - you never go back, you know what I'm sayin'?"

Well, figured I'd torture myself this morning.

One day, one day.......

I was at a GC last night and played a white epi. It felt weird compared to my Gibson. Dunno if it was in my head but the neck felt thicker and the body felt weird.

The necks on various T-bird models (even within Gibson & Epi independently) varies widely - I have one Epi Goth neck that's baseball-bat thick and yet another that is nice and thin. Overall, my '64 has the perfect neck/nut width I've ever played. Having cut my teeth on my T-bird starting in the mid 70's, I was not drawn to the 70's Fenders as even the 1.5" nut J's seemed fat & slow compared to the bird. 24 fret Peavey B-Quad carbon-fiber necks are the closest to my bird I've played since.

I have heard (don't know if it's true) that there's always some hand finishing involved with a Thunderbird neck even in the age of CNC machines. My '76s seem identical, the '89 and the '09 Nikki Sixx are similar to each other.

After a comparison of the Gibson and Epi, yes there is quite the difference.

The neck is chunkier on the Epi, so much preferred the feel of the Gibson.
