Thunderbird Club

We had so much fun last night, lots and lots of people, most were dressed in some sort of related outfit.
This was early on while it was still light out.

How cool to have a dance floor set up underneath an M-21 Blackbird.

Did a door fall offa the Bipe?

No, not hardly. I wish I could play that well! Just a fellow Kentuckian I've gotten acquainted with. I bought a 1981 G&L L1k that he owned and conversations began when he knew I had a old Thunderbird. He has in recent years been bitten by the Thunderbird bug and has acquired several sweet old Thunderbirds, the white one being the latest. He's got a great eye for basses.
Funny, I was just notified of your reply...
Ah, nvrmnd, got it!

The '06 got out of the nest today and out in the wild. I was supper pleased with how it sounded. The last time I used it was a rehearsal and it just didn't sound as good as before. I was even in the back of my mind considering the possibility of offering if for sale if some SITs didn't help. Today certainly put that nonsense to rest. Sounded great and was a joy to play, as always. Currently has LaBella Black Nylons (Black Beauties from when I got it, but same good look).

Haha thank you. Well, it's not my day job. I build bass guitars in my spare time. The time I used to spend on playing in a band and practicing/rehearsing, I spend on building bass guitars these days. I quit playing in a band seven years ago.

Maybe my avatar should say Hobby luthier instead of Amateur luthier?
I was thinking Luthier Extraordinaire!

To me Gibson are worth quite a bit less than they are to everyone else. I was spoiled by working at Taylor Guitars for a short while in the 90s, in the finish department. From that time on, finish flaws have been glaring to me, and Gibson is the king of poor finish prep sanding, and has been for a LONG time.
Fortunately my '06 is flawless. If there is a problem, I can't find it. I was concerned about that when I got it as their reputation proceeded it. Can't say the same for my '21 NR. A couple edges on the bridge end are rough as if not buffed out or not enough layers, I can't really tell and try not to think about it. Fortunately it's not visible, just noticable if you run your hand around the edges. Had I bought it at the going price from a dealer, it would have gone back.
