Does anyone own a lawsuit era (or pre-lawsuit) Ibanez Thunderbird and if so, how do they stand up to Gibson/Epi Thunderbirds?

I walked past a fellow in the street this afternoon. He had a very detailed tattoo of a Fender Strat on his upper arm, and I did actually think 'if it's a 57 Stratocaster, that arm could be quite valuable'.

If I had to sell my goth I would try to get $250 for it and tout that it is a better made older korean one. Compared to my 2015 China bird, it would be a true statement. Not sure I would feel comfortable asking $300. No mods or upgrades though.
The real offender was the $500 NR bolt on. Apologies for adding the $340 goth to the rant. You should see my rants on peavey prices. The 2 things I have been in the market for, Peaveys and birds...

Mine's a 2012 and I'm not sure where it was made. My eBay trigger price that I set up is for $290. If anyone offers that, the listing automatically ends and it turns into a purchase at that price. So $290 plus $60 for shipping considering the mods and I think it's in the ballpark price-wise. I can do a bit better if it doesn't go through eBay of course.
And local pickup would be way better price-wise but I don't have much chance of that happening...
mine is 2006, says made in Korea on the neck plate. The ones with the all black neck plates have made in stickers usually on the back of the headstock. People take those off. Probably China, maybe Indonesia. I like the chrome pickguard, I want a basic white one for mine but don't want to pay for one, hence I haven't even bought that wrench for my semi stripped truss on the 2015.No problem, just checking.

People pay what they think things are worth. No reason to get worked up. I am old enough to remember when you could buy a mid 70's Fender bass for about $300. Now they are 5x that. I bought mine, a 73 Jazz for $350 in 1993.
As far as American Peavey, there was a music store in suburban Philly (Medley Music) that went our of business in the late 90's early 2000's IIRC. I stopped by to see what they had and there was a pile, and I mean pile (easily 30+) of T Series Peavey Guitars and basses on the floor. All new, no cases $15 each. I left with nothing. So when I see a T-40 bass for $450 I just figure somebody wants a Peavey they don't make anymore an is willing to pay. Nostalgia=$$.
I have gotten to the point where I realize that having a few things I really love and use, is a lot more valuable to me than lots of things with "implied worth" that I don't regularly use. YMMV.
Ha, Larry, didn't know that was yours! I've been watching it in the bay (along with several other non Birds). It's got all the right upgrades and is a cool looking Goth. I do think you might have a typo in your ad "12 frets". Unless of course you defretted everything else south of the 12th, which I kinda doubt. Regardless, GLWTS. Somebody is going to be a very happy buyer.

Dang, according to the sellers ad the 340 inch neck is standard. I must have bought the 34" short scale version.
Somebody needs to get hold of UPS to get the pricing for shipment of a 340" x 24" x 12" package weighing 20 pounds.

Thanks. It is cool but I do have so many more cooler TBirds now so I thought I might thin out the flock... or not. I'm not in any hurry and if I don't get my price, gee... I guess I'll have to keep her.
The 12th fret thing is eBay's standard write-up for the Goths. When I listed it, the software asked me if I wanted to use the template so I went with it and didn't even read it.
It's definitely a typo but not mine and I can't edit it, oh well.
That's another eBay template issue and wrong from the get-go. I'm guessing eBay uses what someone else may have typed and if it's selected often enough for a template, then it becomes a "standard" write-up.

Orvilles and Grecos would be kin to Non Reverse Thunderbirds at least in terms of construction, - set neck. Of course the pickups are very different. To my knowledge there are both set neck and bolt on neck Elitiest, but don't quote me on that. So really other than a one off Alembic no one has made a neck thru multi ply version other than Gibson, for traditionalists that's an important part of the overall tonal vision.
