BG plays this but we hadn't for a while. Tonight we were doing 'round robin' at rehearsal and my 1st pick wanted to be RRH, but I instead picked 'Skyfall'. When it came around to Cherie, 'out-of-the-blue' - she chose RRH! It's a long song with many non-repeating lyrics which is why I hesitated picking it. (for Cherie's sake) We laughed and then killed it!

Songs like this and "The Spy (In the House of Love)" by the Doors are vehicles for playing in the way we, as a band - play.., where our collective life-long experience and individual characters 'come out to play'. For me it's the separation between simply "doing a cover" and interpreting a version of the original through our individual filters. Pretty much, all the Bond & other "covers" we do are done as our own interpretations of those usually highly orchestrated arrangements. As in, "Jim, Jim.., we're not a tribute band, we're a JB rock band". (Cherie penned...)

So, regarding this one I was impressed with Vinnie Coliauta's syncopation and Guy Pratt's melodic Fretless playing, but it was the slow, understated guitar arpeggios comping the verses that knocked me out-

I'll agree with the title - a really good live performance of the song that launched RH. Thom York ended up hating the song in the early days as every time they played it the crowd would fixate on it and 'demand' they play it again! I was't until more recently he's allowed it back in a set.

totally agree, even though it looks like a 308 it's a totally different animal….that motor is probably the closest you can get to an F1 motor of the time…..I think 100 years from now we'll be known as yucky primitive people who burned fossil fuels…….it's undeniable EV is the way forward….similar sentiments probably occurred when the motor car replaced the horse after thousands of years… anyway..
THUNDERBIRDS will be like Stradivarius violins by then…

The irony is that many early ones were EV's.

Is it coincidence that they are the only JB 007 movies I've seen in a cinema when newly released?

I can't recall my 1st (new) Bond movie viewing in a theater...

99 outta 100 people are never gonna notice you not playing all the fill riffs. They're gonna be listening to 'the song'. I've heard that song a ship(sp?) load of times and I never noticed all the fancy [stuff].

I do notice the fancy stuff, and after years of torment have decided that every player has an interpretation of time, feel of phrasing, and even their own physical aspects, that inform their playing.
So, when covering a tune, I've finally given myself license to interpret it, and give it the mojo I've got. Just because that guy wrote it doesn't mean his is the only interpretation. It's like telling a story, everyone's got an angle and a delivery.
That decision/revelation has saved the fun of playing cover tunes, and even my own lines for original projects.

What a strange name for a class. I had classes with far more normal names like Medicinal Chemistry 1 & 2, Qualitative Organic Analysis, Quantitative Inorganic Analysis... Easy to understand what those classes were about.

You skipped "Avant-Garde Base Paring And Nucleotides"? How then do you think you are going to benefit humanity?

I didn't have a physical chemistry class. I did have Therapeutics 1 & 2, Physiology, and Pathology.

The microbiology exam was interesting. There was the bell-ringer section that was 5 minutes long. A slide was shown for 1 minute and you had to figure out what bacteria it was; there were 5 of them.

Perhaps even stranger that I was a math major. Ended up a linguistics major.

Not really in some ways. I can see some similarities. Kind of like math and music theory.

Plus, it's doubtful 'the guy' played it the same way at every concert. It's interesting to see how some very important lines stay true to the original, and what 'evolves' over years of playing. And that doesn't include personnel changes.

EVs been a round a while. Tech is making them more viable. Early on they were a good chunk of the market at the time. Just never panned out.
I still think they will be replaced by better options on the horizon and will be looked back on as something of a expensive fad, if not a diversion from better options. But my crystal ball is cloudy at times.
