Almost like it sterilizes the tone

2 fact worth noting:
I don't run a 100% clean signal chain anyway. yay dirt
I have clean power here. The only noise the basses pick up are RFi from wireless devices

I studied EMI/EMC in Engineering so probably just over-kill on my part. I would compare it to a car guy doing something to his engine to gain .001 of a second. Most drivers don’t notice or care.

I think i noticed, but it's just to clean

Interestingly enough, I mess with rfi in controls, and also in the Electronic fuel injection on cars.
I see a lot of benefit resolving it there

My Magnacor wires had to run right past my MAF. Shielding was a definite requirement.

Well yes, the string-stop is useable (behind a 3-point), but (a new) one like it is available through Scott Dasson or other repro T-bird string-stops found on eBay so paying (what could end up to be) a "vintage" price for that '64 would only be worth it if you were missing it on another '64 T-bird and wanted to keep it era-specific. The bridge itself is only useful if positioned correctly, unlike on the '64 it came off of - and even then, its short adjustment saddle-path still might not allow correct intonation adjustment.

Like bridge & pu covers back in the day - someone 86'd that bridge/tailpiece to install one that would intone correctly before the whole 'vintage worth' got out of control. Same with the brass-mute ... just in the way.

When I wanted to add a stop bar behind the 3 point on my Casady, I found the Epiphone stop bar from a VP had wider spacing and it didn't look right to my eye. I found a different one on eBay that matched.
I think the string spacing on a 64 is the same as a VP.
I'm curious about the Grecos. Does the stop bar spacing match the bridge?

Yes I have had to explain to some car guys (re: carburetor guys learning FI stuff) how critical clean wiring, clean routing, and the effects of grounded, shielded, and drain grounds are on low volt systems

Some of the aftermarket EFI systems have the ECM in the throttle body (dumb... my Edelbrock is under the dash like factory), I started having those guys run a ground wire from the throttle body to the engine ground, and not just use the system ground back to the battery. It's like magic

especially in TBirds where the pups not only humbuckers and in many cases already metal encased….

I had heavy ground wires to the firewall from several points on the block and manifold. Can’t have too many grounds.

Unlike my house, which has none. That’s why all my amps give you as much unintentional dirt as you don’t want.

Sort of. I'm using a Microtubes 500V2 with my Dingwall D Roc. That amp sounds good with everything I've put through it, from Squier Contemporary Active p and J to my 89 Mexican. Squier Jazz Standard with Fender Noiseless Vintage pickups to my 88 Charvel 4b with EMGs to the D Roc.

I’m debating between the alpha omega 900 and Microtubes 900v2. The Mesa Strategy is a little too much noodling around at night.

I already have a B7K ultra so I’m leaning towards the AO and there’s a used one at Long & McQuade for a decent price I could get them to ship it to a local store.

Probably older instruments benefit more than new ones. I had a few that benefited but I also tidied up the wiring and upgraded components. We all have our pet projects!

I can park a J bass on my bench, neck pick up only, amp on, dead silent.
2 houses ago I had a house that was so bad I tore the drywall out and rewired all of the outlets, and added not only sound deadening but also shielding before redoing the sheet rock. Hello faraday!!

I unwittingly did that to myself on a bass I built, running 2x Tbird pups into VTVT.
Grounded the pots together and such, almost no output

I cut one pot loose, and magic!

My '64 II is 2-1/4" and the 3-point on a Cassidy is 2-1/8". I'm pretty sure the Greco & Gibson string-stops are spaced the same but Chucky can confirm this. The visual difference is that the Greco is squared-off and the Gibson has rounded corners/edges.

if your pups are well shielded, all you need is decent quality shielded audio cable using the same grounding stitch points as you would with the tape….electromagnetically speaking, pretty much the same thing…..if anything, better since your not potentially creating unintended resonant cavities and weirdness' of that type imho…

so true….as you may know, grounding makes for an excellent dissertation topic…

Not fussy at all.
I’m no technical expert on any of this.
But I’m sure a straight path coming from the stop piece is important.
I’m sure Geo and Chuck could chime in on this.
