Thunderbird Club

Izzy says hi! She is recovering well and eating her normal diet.

thx V, isn’t there one that breaks down the production qty by serial number floating around somewhere?
Maybe Veronica knows something I don't, but for years, I have been trying to figure out what the serial number on my EB-2 means. With no success. I have finally given up and decided that it's a 1968. That's for a variety of reasons, but my logic is no more reliable than Gibson's serial numbering system. Or lack of a system. It would surprise me if Thunderbird production and serial numbers are any different.

Maybe there's a resource I don't know about. I hope so, since it's been a frustrating process.

I still enjoy learning new things and good conversations with others...even if we don't always agree.
COVID cheated a lot of students out of a few important years of learning too. Plus learning an instrument at an early age is a good way to expand a young mind too.

Without getting too deeply into this which could be contentious, how individual people dealt with the Covid period determined how it affected their lives. As in - individual responsibility. It forced everyone to stretch their day-to-day reality to create positive possibilities they could control within a restrictive time. Personally I found a certain freedom which I was able to use productively.

And there's more recent been studies that show that even at an advanced age - learning an instrument (piano, guitar, drums, horn etc) keeps the mind active and 'exercised'. Seems obvious.

I've read a few that talk about learning and playing a musical instrument as a good way to combat Alzheimer's. Something about creating new connections in your brain akin to learning a language

Which is why you all have to put up with me. I got back into playing specifically for the mental health and cognitive benefits.

A bit more than 15 years ago, I started playing again after a long layoff. Because it's fun! The mental health benefits are the joy it gives, and that's a lot of joy.

I don't know of any site that breaks it down that way, I think Gibson was a bit haphazard with their s/n's up until sometime in the '80s. Even stamping s/n's on '70s Birds didn't result in reliable dating.

It's common to hear someone say "it's too late to learn an instrument at my age" which is an easy way out to not learn an instrument. Granted it won't be as easy as when younger, but the point is it will lead to self-initiated enjoyment and personal rewards aside from strengthening our brains. I can't image my life without playing bass -
