Thunderbird Club

Yeah, his choices are super limited.
SpitFire is also almost twice as much.

I have no idea how Mark physically operates his biz, but as far as I know - he himself creates the "look" and each option is hand-applied. ("painted") Don't know if other people help facilitate completion of each pg after that.

Spitfire would be GREAT if I was replacing the one on my 61 P-bass but for this bass it isn’t necessary to be that expensive or specific.

Other than those few boutique makers (boutique = $$, and justifiably so being essentially hand-made) - any production tort is a dot-pattern photo-image; a photo reproduction of imitation tort. :rollno: This is what gives tort a bad name.

Hmmm are you opening your services?
Irv, aside from being a great friend, is a fantastic craftsman who does pro quality pickguards, TR covers, decals, and assorted 3D printed bits. He does have a family, a day job, bands, and a life. I’ve found that if you ask nicely, and wait your turn in line, he will make things for members here for a fair price. But we all need to remember to respect his time.

We have so many talented members here willing to help. This is an amazing place.

This is one of the rare instances that I’m in no rush. I don’t mind waiting if the end product is worth it.

I finally got around to installing my '64 II's (original) N-pu cover. I play over the bridge pu so it won't be in the way for me. I've never had it on the bass since taking it off in '78. I had to make a spacer for the E-side foot so it sits even with the G-side standing on the pg. In going through my original parts - I realized I had 4 (black plastic) spacers which are all the same size and the one I needed is longer. So they all are for a bridge cover which is shorter. I have my '68 EB3 (long sold) bridge cover so I'll assume that is where the second set is from. I studied the bass and realized it probably didn't have N-pu cover spacers there as there was a slight indent that echoed the cover foot exactly. The original pg is slightly thinner than my ebony clone so installed the tilt w/o a spacer wouldn't have been noticeable. I have all original parts so if there was a longer one - I would have it. The bridge-pu cover stays in the box - it would be in the way limiting my playing, most especially palm-muting which I incorporate a lot.

After the '63 II was stollen along with my custom ebony/abalone inlay pg* - I got the '64 II and made a second pg for it, which is the one pictured. Carved out my name on the back for provenance-sake.

*long story but I ended up getting my 1st custom pg back a number of years ago, abet missing a corner. I've since repaired it. My second attempt was much better - the first one was my first stab at inlay-work.

There's twice as much and then there's twice as much. When you are buying something really expensive, that's one thing. When it's something that's relatively inexpensive overall, it's another thing. I prefer spending more to get exactly what I want if it's within the realm of reason. If the exact same thing costs twice as much, then it's not worth it. It's all a trade-off and dependent on whether you have information or not.

It looks fantastic with the cover on it. I like covers. It's a shallow thing. I have found that I can more or less palm mute even with the bridge cover installed. Not that I do it much.

We have a crises throughout the country. It is really bad in California. Many don’t last long enough to even think about retirement.

Same here. Teachers are leaving the profession at a great rate, including those in their first years.
My wife is now working as a lawyer, and my daughter is now a school councillor. Both did additional study (of course) in order to start new careers but a guy I met recently left to take up a franchise in something completely different.
