Thunderbird Club

Well, Bubinga is not actually a true Rosewood (genus Dalbergia). It's simply one of a fairly large number of woods that are often called "Rosewood"; more to fool people into thinking that it is, than anything else. The fingerboard on my Canadian "93 Fury Anthem lined fretless bass is Pau Ferro. Which is also known as Bolivian or Santos Rosewood. But, it's not from the Dalbergia genus; so, not a "True" Rosewood... And doesn't look much like the real thing, TBH...
I know that the fretboard on my '01 Rick 4003 is Bubinga, but I'm not sure that the one on my '73 4001 is. I seem to recall that Rick used Goncalo Alves 'way back then, but...? I do know that they used Ebony for their fretless basses...
I stand corrected:D
There is a lot of stuff called Rosewood, just like there are a lot of woods called Mahogany.

I have a Warmoth body with a Goncalo Alves top. I never thought of that as looking like Rosewood.

Thunderbird Thursday!
Vintage Pro Row.
Cheers!

That should be the front.

I considered that but I liked the 'surprise' concept of being able to play it like it's just another (abet sparkly) bass... until you set it back-out against your amp during a break. :woot: I imagine the person who bought it doesn't gig it though... more of a collector piece although like I said - it sounded fantastic!

A ‘bird of another colour.
Donald Campbell’s CN7 Bluebird. He set the world land speed record in this on Lake Eyre. A large salt lake in South Australia.
I had a model of this car when I was a kid, either Matchbox or Corgi (I think Corgi as it was a bit bigger than usual for Matchbox). Wish I still had it.

Hmph! Doesn't look like it would corner very well.:smug:

When the whole dark chocolate thing started escalating - I got into it and sought out the highest number I could find. But these days I like Lindt w/a touch of Sea Salt. Don't know the number, a med dark milk chocolate.
Not Reese's, but my other fave is "Milky Way Midnight". Same as a "Milky Way" but with dark chocolate. If yer old enuff, you might remember them as "Forever Yours"-same thing.

I have a few vintage basses with uncommon wood/fb necks -

Dano made '68 Silvertone 1443 Hornet - like all Dano basses then, poplar neck & body. Always opaque finished as poplar isn't the prettiest of woods - they all had rosewood fb's.

Dano made '68 Coral Deluxe Bass - one of the more interesting neck/hs designs; solid rosewood grafted to poplar...

What looks like beech - this fb on an '80 Czech bass -

Torrified/roasted flamed maple - on my Italian retro-inspired custom bass. ENB/Music Man uses this type of neck on many of their basses/guitars,

I think it's maple but almost looks like oak - ('60s Holland-made Egmond)

...and a maple neck with some crazy grain patters -
