Thunderbird Club

Sorry, non-Thunderbird content. But I’m thinking of maybe getting these for my anemic MIM Deluxe PJ.

Interesting. My fingers would likely fall off if they ever touched the pickups.

DiMarzo's will certainly fix anemic. The original anemic fixer in some respects. But there are many good options. Fender '62 or vintage, or whatever they are calling them sound great.

A question for you Greco fans. I am looking at a late 70's TB-90 (single pickup). What do you folks think of Greco birds in general? Anything to look out for? Is something in the $1k region a good price for a very good condition bird?
My 88 & 89 Grecos are my main players. I love, love, love the tone. The necks are a bit beefier than I prefer but not bad until trying to reach the E string quickly when way up the neck. Slightly shorter scale works great for me. My biggest complaint is the lack of relief on the wing backs - and even that's not a big one. Both of mine were in that price range. One was good condition, the other VG plus upgraded tuners and a newer (Epi) three point bridge as the old one was apparently junk.

Yeah, the Ultra Jazz are great. What I was seriously considering when thinking of replacing the Carvin's J pickups was the Relentless J. They sound huge in demos.

Personally. I think there are better choices considering what Fender wants for those.
I know your thoughts. And they are in consideration. I’ve got to do something about the bass. It has really bad fret sprout. And with the binding, I’m hesitant to go after it myself. So if I’m taking it in to someone, I might as well have them swap pickups. The bass has a really nice J neck, I like the bridge, and the tuners are fine. And I’ve always liked the finish.

The fret sprout is an easy fix and shouldn’t cost much at all.
As far as pick ups, it’s all a personal thing.
Get exactly what YOU want.

That does look really nice. For what it's worth, they make the Relentless in both P and J.

Fret sprout with binding? Not sure I've ever seen that...mind you it never really gets dry here.

Unfortunately it happens on such necks.
But easy to deal with unless the binding is splitting.
I’m not confident enough in my skills to attempt to remedy it myself. The binding hasn’t split. Yet. The bass is a keeper. I got it new for half what new ones sold for a couple years ago. I want to move it into the rotation as one I love to play.

I'm sure they sound good, but they look bitchin'! Chrome trimmed pu's always have a vintage vibe - what are they going for?
