I ordered a TBX pot after reading about the uses here. I have a Jazz Special so I am already familiar with it, but never would have thought to try it on the Epi Birds. I'm going to install it in my new-to-me sunburst Epi. I will let you know my thoughts after I do it.

Awesome bro. Let us know how it goes. $12 tone 15 min install.

Picked up this one today. It sounds so radically different from my Formerly a Goth, TBurt. Newbie is much, much brighter. I still don't like the top hats and I don't like the three point bridge (I may have mentioned that once or twice) so those will likely go. You can see in the pic of them both that the nut width is slimmer on the Newbie, even though Epi says it's not supposed to be. interesting.

That depends on how you want this to be wired. Spend some time online and look for wiring diagrams. I copied the Jazz Bass Special (aka Duff Mckagen sig Bass) View attachment 486676

So did you add the 3 way switch as well on your Epi? I kinda want to avoid adding a switch, but can work with it if I need to.

So the thinner bolt-on neck wasn't a figment of my imagination! :)

My BurstBird has the strap buttons on the upper horn like your Goth. I think the rear/neck plate placement started happening a couple years back??

Having quite a few Epi bolt-ons this is my observation:

The older ones have the wider neck, a straight headstock (straight in line with the neck like a Gibson) and quite often the strap button on the upper on (though they moved it to the neck plate in recent years).

The newer ones have the narrow neck with the 1,5" nut, a downwards slanted headstock to keep strings in a straight line (as opposed to the old straight headstock) and the strap button on the neck plate.
The downward slanted headstock was also used on the Pro-V...

I kinda dig the playability of the narrow neck and 1,5" nut on my TV Silver Limited Edition - But I'm not too happy about the downward slanted headstock, which I think breaks the design flow of the bass as a whole.
I would much rather they would have gone with a narrow neck and a straight headstock - just like they did on the Classic Pro-IV and the Gibsons - either that, or the wider neck/straight headstock, which looks much nicer IMHO.

I would think you could leave out the switch just fine - unless you also move the jack to side, then you could always fill the old input hole on the front with a toggle/kill switch...
