Thanks Donnie!So cool!
Maybe. The 2015 'bird or the EB13/14 pickups. Are you talking about the DeCola?
Not a Tbird, but Gibson content:
My first outing with the Ripper was accompanying my daughter on a classical bass duet.
If you're interested my part starts about 45:20.
I'm giving myself more time for Part 1I remember you talking about that. I can see why it took that long!
Like many other strings, they can be really special and a great match. I find them perfect in some applications. So I restrung the J with these just now.
Actually impressed.
Tension is perfect for me.
Very easy to play.
Very well balanced tonally.
With a slight exception to where the low mids meet the upper mids.
Not necessarily a bad thing.
Still getting used to them as compared to EBCF’s.
So far I like what I’m hearing.
The true test is what they will be like when they break in a bit.

Yes, Decolas. They have cylindrical alnico 5 magnets and can be tapped.Maybe. The 2015 'bird or the EB13/14 pickups.
Thanks! Could be. I wanted a bit of crunch and string noise to go with the bow of the DB. The Ripper has Ken Smith stainless strings. And Mar liked the black on black look.Fantastic, Irv. I wonder if that's the first time a Ripper has been used in this context.
2015 have DeColas.Maybe. The 2015 'bird or the EB13/14 pickups.
Yes. One would think the five string version isn't as common as the four?Yes, Decolas. They have cylindrical alnico 5 magnets and can be tapped.View attachment 7020017
Is it called the e-bow? No, but I think I know someone with one.
I have an inexpensive butler bow - the better one I used to own I sold with my upright many years ago. One can spend a lot of money on a good bow. Yo-Yo Ma sez' much of the sound of an instrument comes from the bow. Thanks! Yes I had bought a German bow when I got the bass and Mar has stuck with it. She bought a much higher quality bow last year at the Bass Church in Seattle.
I keep seeing Watermelon Man in your setlists. Maybe Irv's too?... I'm playing a one-off next weekend and the guitar player knows it, I used to. I think I'll pull it together for next Saturday.
Different pu's & electronics can re-shape any basses sound. It will take experimenting, but you should be able to breathe new life into your bird if you are willing. This includes active pre's which usually boost output and low frequencies.I’m falling out of love with my Thunderbird.
I built a PJ bass with an EMG Geezer butler pickup set. With the same strings on my Thunderbird and PJ, I prefer the PH by a mile. In comparison my bird sounds lifeless.
Please save me from selling my Tbird!
Is it still running TB+ pickups? Lots here like them but I prefer my Lollars, Novaks, Gibson vintage re-issues, and Dunable D-bird pickups over the TB+ by a lot. I don’t have TB+ in anything.I’m falling out of love with my Thunderbird.

Send it to me, and I will keep it in trust. When you want it back and think you've gotten over it, I'll send it back to you.I’m falling out of love with my Thunderbird.

This is interesting. I might try something new in the bridge, for a little more life up in the top end.Is it still running TB+ pickups? Lots here like them but I prefer my Lollars, Novaks, Gibson vintage re-issues, and Dunable D-bird pickups over the TB+ by a lot. I don’t have TB+ in anything.
…and the Gibson vintage re-issues are something special, I highly recommend them.
DeCola’s. After Gibson head luthier Jim DeCola. I love them in my ‘15.What these coil-splittable EB/T-Bird pickups were called again?
