I'd have passed on that too. I chased several down to almost purchasing before mine popped up in my eBay feed one morning. A '78 in mint condition, single listing, good price and free two day shipping from Japan. I jumped on it (pictured below). They're out there. You'll find a good one. Don't take any wooden nickels.
One popped up in my Reverb feed yesterday. I've spoken with this seller before about other instruments. The price is high but it's in great shape. He's knowledgeable, courteous and professional and always has good stuff. Maybe he'll come down on the price.

Not for me, but a good deal for someone looking for one. I can’t be spending much on gear anymore. However, If I could get my ‘73 SVT and cab sold I might consider going for it, but for now, no buying without selling something first.

Interesting that he thinks the pickup is a single coil. I haven't heard anyone say that.
There are some pretty beefy single coils in other MIJ basses.
Nice but over my budget.
Looks nice, but I'd want to see some more pictures showing the extent of that headstock crack.
Might just be my old eyes, but the neck looks like it’s been reshaped to a bit more of a V shape at the headstock. I should probably drink coffee before posting such wierd things.
