Thunderbird Club

I see it as an amoeba popsicle.

I’m also not a fan of equal horn shaped basses (EB0, SG, etc).

There are plenty of basses out there and everyone has their preferences. So that’s what’s great! Get what you want.
exactly - there is no shortage of choices in the 'free world'...

Awful quality... but I saw this on SNL that night in 1989 and was blown away by the raw passion of their performance.

As much as I love a great Reverse, I'm not so sure I don't like the looks of a NR better. The first time I saw one that I recall was Leon, and I just though they were cool and a bit funky. I find both comfortable to play (NR especially when on the couch), but live I think I prefer the feel of a Reverse. Yet this could be just from decades of playing one. I don't notice anything uncomfortable about a NR played live, but my '64 and the '06 just seem to be custom made for me. Possibly familiarity as much as anything. But I have never played a 60s NR. Anyone want to send me their's so I can compare?

Along the same lines, I would think my next best feeling shape if 2gen Pbass. I love the feel of my '55. Neck is big, but feels great, I have nothing but praise for the body shape. It's all like an old friend. Next might be the '81 G&L or either L2k. J's feel great and might actually be next, then Ps. A Ric would be the most odd feeling bass I've ever owned.
I luv”em all….have heard the reverse shape described as “goofy” looking…whatever…..who cares?..,.teto…..

I knew this was either going to be the one of the best purchases of my life or a huge mistake, I am happy to report that this thing sounds amazing! I spent the evening going through it fixing some wiring and gluing up some bits, then I slapped a Mighty Mite Jazz bass neck on it. It needs a complete tear down and cleaning, it's filthy!
But man talk about potential. Video tomorrow.

The broken bits below the control cavity look like they can be re-attached - but the electronics look original. My '64 has twin caps like that.

I bought the 67 NR in 73. Until ~2 years ago, I'd never held a reverse. I did so sitting down at a GC with no strap. It felt very familiar. I think because of my relative shortness, it might be a bit more difficult to play in my normal position. Or not. But due to my chronic mufunzalo, it doesn't really matter. I have all the basses I'll ever need. In fact, I don't really 'need' the Les Paul 5er, but I ain't givin' it away.

My '64 II with my added center pot - I solder much cleaner these days... this was done in 1986... :bag: Only posted to show original twin caps like yours.

Thanks for posting that. I don't think I ever saw that before mine crosed my bench.

HA!…“we’re out of .047 ceramics and they are on allocation! engineering change order (ECO) quick! ‘install 2 .022s (Gibson p/n xxx-xx-xx) following guidelines in drawing xxxxc’”…….

Nice! Are you thinking of keeping the slider switches? They'd be easy enough to replace.
Honestly I'm undecided. Part of me wants to keep it as is and for the most part I will but I find the switches redundant and look terrible. It's also wired VVTT. I may clean it up with a repro pg and wire it VVTT.

It's too bad the original modder didn't go with a 3 way switch in the corner of the pickguard like a Firebird
