After much consideration, soul searching, mental and financial gymnastics and a consult with our Queen I pulled the trigger on this misfit toy of a '65 Thunderbird. It's to far gone to warrent a full restoration but it will make a hell of a 7enderbird

Very cool! I can relate as I have several pieces of gear that belonged to an old friend.
As much as I love a great Reverse, I'm not so sure I don't like the looks of a NR better. The first time I saw one that I recall was Leon, and I just though they were cool and a bit funky. I find both comfortable to play (NR especially when on the couch), but live I think I prefer the feel of a Reverse. Yet this could be just from decades of playing one. I don't notice anything uncomfortable about a NR played live, but my '64 and the '06 just seem to be custom made for me. Possibly familiarity as much as anything. But I have never played a 60s NR. Anyone want to send me their's so I can compare?

Cool! If you can do so easily Irv, can you post one of the car itself? My cousin would love to see it and I can't imagine trying to find one you posted before. He had a '64 Beetle he drove for years, and later a '68 Beetle convertible he got from an uncle and fixed up and painted. Really sharp. It had a Karman badge on the side.

You do realize that when you make a car mod as significant as suicide doors you have to post at least one pic with the doors open.
I have Fender Super 55 Split-Coil pu's in this J which are really good sounding 'noiseless' pu's. They don't make them anymore and I just checked eBay where none were listed. They are paired with a 9v Audere pre which together brings strong deep bass and clean articulate mids & highs.Which brings me to wanting to swap out the Ultra J’s

I sure do like Fenders Pure Vintage ‘66’s.
