But think about it. Cars had big fins. That was the modern design esthetic then. Looking toward the space age.
2-point and claw is aesthetically correct in my book. It's strange how things turn out - the way things are going, I'm going to end up with all Thunderbirds and never going to have a 3-point.
I have one Epiphone and one Gibson with three points. One Gibson with a two point. Three Gibsons with Babicz, and one Epiphone with an Epi pro bridge. Oh yeah, one 7ender with a bent up piece of sheet metal. They all work fine.Interesting given they are pretty common on Gibson basses.
I have 8 basses with 3 point bridges- 6 Gibsons ( A Bird, two RDs, ES 335, Ripper & G3 Reissue), an Epi Flying V Bass and a Greco Bird. I have 3 Gibson basses with a bridge other than a three pointer (Les Paul Double Cut and two Victorys).
I might go three or four thousand for that bird as long as it had all the proper provenance. All my Porsches are worth much much more than that so if there was a trade there'd have to be a sizable chunk of cash thrown in by the seller. Are you willing to trade your Porsche for it?

Nope, but in a perfect world I'd have one...then again, I'd have a lot of things!Yours?
A high school buddy had that Desoto in white. The trunk could fit eight guys and girls sneaking into the drive-in. Sweet ride.Yeah, Baby!

Suddenly, just looking at this car and picturing it driving around strikes me as very funny. It just looks kind of ungainly. Probably a lot of fun though!A high school buddy had that Desoto in white. The trunk could fit eight guys and girls sneaking into the drive-in. Sweet ride.
Haven't tried modding your p'up config? Nordstrand makes a killer p/j set, so I hear, in a soapbar shape.I always loved the look of the Thunderbird. Back in 1986 I tried to make on cuz Nikki Sixx looking cool playing his stripped hamer. Well, being left I didn't actually find one til about 4 or so years ago. That was a Dillion. I discovered that it's the perfect live bass for me. Love the feel and the look.
Humbucking pickups are not the sound I prefer, I've been a PJ guy since I started playing on my first Ibanez (only lefty I could find). So today I almost exclusively play a Thunderbird of some sort. I still wrestle with the sound. I've tried alot of amps, preamps, pickups and I've come to realize, I'm just not going to get "my" sound out of a Thunderbird. It's cool though cuz they are still my favorite on stage.
St home, rehearsal and the occasional sit in I'll use a PJ Wich is either customized squire or fender PJ or a Kramer. So Thunderbirds are my LIVE bass but not my ONLY basses. I've had some killer basses including custom order spectors, Warwick and such, still prefer a Thunderbird.
Don't pay a booking agent. That's the venue's job. Never, ever pay anyone to play a show. You're being hired, not the reverse. What a week. Our guitar player went nuts on us. We were ready to book our first gig and he decided that we should rent a VFW hall instead. Now, we have discussed gigs and places we can book at, and he never mentioned this idea. I think the guy is crazy and he has no idea about insurance needs, hiring security and other issues. He got loud and yelling that he won't pay a booking agent and will only drive 40 minutes from his house, and he lives all the way down the Jersey Shore.
We decided to call a meeting last week to smooth things out and he never showed up, so screw hi. He's a good player, but has been acting strange for a few weeks and I don't need the drama.
We have someone auditioning next week and also have a possible solution. Our singer would switch to guitar and a singer who used to be in a Crue tribute would join. He can't play guitar, so that's not an option. Only problem this might cause is that our singer isn't thrilled with this, and I know it must be hard to give up the lead singer role in a band. We have put a lot of work into this act and rather not give up on it. The drummer and current singer are reliable and level headed, as well as knowing their parts.
Top it off, a Def Leppard tribute wants me to audition. I'm not a big Leppard fan, but going to see what they have to offer. Thought all this drama would not be here at 50, but guess things never change.
Thanks for letting me vent.....
