Thunderbird Club

Installing a mud-bucker at the neck on a bass was a thing in the late '60-early '70s. The days of 18" speakers and big low-end.
I think we are still in the days of big low end. I was at an outdoor festival yesterday and when the Odds came on, I decided to get close to the front. There was a massive amount of low frequency content coming off the subs under the stage, to the point of almost being uncomfortable. At least it wasn't just the kick. There was a lot of bass guitar fundamentals! (J through an Ampeg SVT)
My guitarist friend said it was improved from Saturday night when the subs were even louder.

Made in Canada! I thought Dbirds were all made in China.
IIRC - the Standard line of DBirds was built in China and the Custom line of DRocs were built in Canada.
Dingwall didn’t go the Squier/Fender or Epiphone/Gibson route to differentiate the origin of the bass, they just call one a Standard and the other a Custom. At least I think that’s how it works, I’m not an expert on their brand.

I think there has always been a want of low-end - back then it came from the player & their rigs and today it's coming from the FoH systems. I agree it is way too much - especially as you mentioned, the kick. It's like "hey, we paid big bucks to do this so we need to crank it to the max". :rollno:

I assume the Fenderbird JE gave Leon.

Since we haven't had FOH any time after Summer 2015, I gots to supply as much "Original Surround Sound"(TM @dagrev) as possible directly outta my amp. Prolly a helluva lot bassy-er than most of y'all prefer to put forth-or fifth. But that 60s thump-with a bit of added mids-is what I like to emulate. I don't wanna sound like a gee-tar down an octave.
JMNSHO.
