Wow. But everyone has different ears. He could have gotten $500 or more for that pair of Thunderbuckers. I’m still fuming that I screwed up and misunderstood. I’m glad you scored them Miles.

For home practice I've been really happy with the Line 6 Relay G10. For live, I only use cables. I like simplicity. This is all a tangent, though, since Dave asked about in-ears, but I have zero experience with that.

I took the day off just for me. My wife took our daughter to LAX for her flight home to Boston. I folded laundry, finished all the dishes, washed and detailed the Subie, and hit the shed at 1:00 PM.

I am going to nail Heart of the Sunrise if it kills me. It’s not hard note wise, but the intro is blazing fast. I get a decent Squire tone from the ‘15 with the bridge tap on, the neck full humbucker, and running through the Subway channel of the TT800. Close enough to the rolling Ric tone with the gain at 2:00.

I have much to be thankful for.

I am working on the album version. There is no way I can keep up with this.

I took the day off just for me. My wife took our daughter to LAX for her flight home to Boston. I folded laundry, finished all the dishes, washed and detailed the Subie, and hit the shed at 1:00 PM.

I am going to nail Heart of the Sunrise if it kills me. It’s not hard note wise, but the intro is blazing fast. I get a decent Squire tone from the ‘15 with the bridge tap on, the neck full humbucker, and running through the Subway channel of the TT800. Close enough to the rolling Ric tone with the gain at 2:00.

I have much to be thankful for.

Trippy graphics - I admire your wanting to replicate such an intricate, diverse and high energy performance, but over the years I found if I attempted something of this level hoping to 'nail it' would only discourage me trying. 'Reza' live by Jaco was such an attempt for me. Reza studio - yes, but live... wow. Break it up into sections and focus on one at a time until you master that section. Otherwise it'll just turn you off to trying.

The main body of the song is hard enough 'feel' wise, but it gets athletic at around 7:00 when he joins the horn section phrase - a simple line but played at such a high tempo with solid expression is where rubber-meets-the-road.

Thanks. I’d have been happy for you if you’d got them. As is, I’m happy with them.
A pair of 760s, if Gibson sold them, would be ~260, so get got his 500.

I had a good almost twelve years as a kid and young adult until I “grew up.” Part of me wishes I never had grown up. But my family came first, and that’s what really matters. I just wish I had more time in the “Golden Years.”

I had a good almost twelve years as a kid and young adult until I “grew up.” Part of me wishes I never had grown up. But my family came first, and that’s what really matters. I just wish I had more time in the “Golden Years.”

Never say never. I started playing again about fifteen years ago after a family/career hiatus that could easily have been permanent. It wasn't, thank goodness. At this point, I don't try to nail anything exactly. Just get the feel right so that it works in the song. That is a playing with a band mentality, I suppose. It is fun. If it wasn't, I wouldn't do it. It sure isn't an economic choice.

Never say never. I started playing again about fifteen years ago after a family/career hiatus that could easily have been permanent. It wasn't, thank goodness. At this point, I don't try to nail anything exactly. Just get the feel right so that it works in the song. That is a playing with a band mentality, I suppose. It is fun. If it wasn't, I wouldn't do it. It sure isn't an economic choice.

Yep. Except for the easy stuff. I was a chords and keys player who know theory from years of piano. Some thought I was decent, even if I didn’t play exactly like the record.

Trust me, my advice only relates to doing what we all love doing. I've just discouraged my own progress in the past attempting what was clearly a stretch for my skills. The key is to master songs you can learn and play them well. I used to attempt following Mahavishnu Orchestra arrangements and got very frustrated trying. Play just above your skill-level and play it well and you'll be happy and become a better bass player.

When I talked a few years ago about wanting a Ric, this song’s tone was why. And yeah, even the album is tough enough. I haven’t even attempted this song yet.
