Thunderbird Club

Another example is the 50th @Anniversary Gold Reverse. I believe at least some came off the line in ‘12. So are they a ‘12 or a ‘13? It’s like buying a ‘25 model car in the fall of ‘24. I don’t think it matters all that much.

If one wants a CP with the different pickup position, look for one with a ‘12 or ‘13 serial number, then inspect carefully and measure.

And Happy B-Day Miles!

All the pedal board posts made me jealous, so I picked up a cheap, aluminum board. Now I feel better

I still have to mount the power under but that will require some thought and drilling for the cables

It's worth it to put a bit of time into a pedalboard, so it's easy to set up and works every time.

fact that Gibson told BaCH to stop producing NRs makes them even more desirable...
BaCH, Lull, Dingwall, Spector, Greco, Acasia, Orville, Tokai, Cataldo, and even North built basses are all welcome in this household. What isn’t welcome here is an off brand that’s been purposefully mis labeled as a Gibson or Epiphone with the intent to deceive others.
All those brands mentioned above are darn fine guitars, and should be played and displayed proudly to acknowledge the builder. If Gibby says cease and desist then do so, that just makes what’s already been built worth that much more.

Agreed - I like my copies, but I woud never sell one attempting to pass it off as a Gibson, Fender, Rick, or Dan Armstrong.

But absent an original owner’s receipt, the s/n is all we can go by, unless the pots have a later date on them.
True in most cases. It starts to become less rigid when a builder releases a limited run of basses. The 2013 NR or the 2015 Gibson Tbird are good examples as are the Gibson 2008 Guitar of the week builds. In all those cases I’d refer to them by the model year not the actual build date. If someone wanted to know the exact build date I would then elaborate. But calling a 2015 Tbird a 2014 or 2016 is just plain incorrect. It’s still technically a 2015 model.

In the case of the CP, AFAIK rhey were built for multiple years, so going by a serial number to identify the year is the correct way to go. BTW, just how long was the CP built? Dont think I’ve seen that info (I know, check the WIKI. I’ll be jumping over there today to enter the 2012 CP Pup spacing info).

A bit of sandpaper takes care of the issue as well.
Indeed. I actually wanted something rigid and flat so as to only hit the burs sticking up and minimize the risk of sandpaper (alone) scratching the screw head itself, so the nail file was easier and I didn't have to go to the garage.

Agreed on dates/names.

To the best of my knowledge, the CP was produced from 2012 to 2020.

A fine-tooth file not dissimilar to a nail-file is what I use to smooth screw-heads. Doesn't take much.

Good catch. I think they only ever made one Alembird as a custom build for a specific buyer. IIRC they had some technical issues with the build (not Gibson related AFAIK) and I don’t think they ever intend to build another one. But money talks, and if you can afford a custom order Alembic you probably have plenty of money.

I’m an Alembic lover and have a couple of them, but to be perfectly honest, that bird looks like something Spector would have put out, not nearly as outrageous as many other Alembic builds. If I could have picked this baby up for $4000 or under I’d have been all over it…

Was that a one-off or an actual Alembic production bass?
I’m pretty sure they only built one to fulfill a customer custom request. Here’s the build thread, some interesting reading…

There is a local bar with an open mic night. They give you a short set (5 songs). Here is the play list in no particular order. Any thoughts on the best order? We won't be ready until late January or February. Practice last night has the instruments pretty solid...but still down to vocals.

BB King, The Thrill is Gone
Doors, Roadhouse Blues
Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Blue on Black
Jimi Hendrix, All Along the Watchtower
Kiss, I was Made for Lovin' You
