Thunderbird Club

A most Happy Birthday to you, George @GBassNorth

Good evening Thunderbird loving sisters and brothers. I hope all of you are doing well. I have been contemplating picking up a not too expensive bass to leave at the office, so as to hopefully practice a bit while taking a break. I am curious if anyone has any experience with the Gibson EB series. Not the short scale, but I believe long scale from the 2018 to maybe 2018. I seem to be using 5 strings with both bands and found a 2018 EB5 on Reverb that is actually at a pawn shop here in Spokane. I am hoping to slip away early from work tomorrow and check it out. It doesn't seem this series of basses caught on, but that doesn't mean it might not work out. I don't think I have ever seen one in the wild, so am hoping someone might weigh in with their thoughts or experiences with them.
My favorite big girl was back yesterday morning, I was backing out before I realized she was there.
I hope you all have a good Friday and a great weekend.
I have a four string EB from 2013. It gets played a lot. At one point, I thought it would be the bass I get buried with. Except that it would be a waste of a perfectly good bass guitar. It needs new strings at the moment. I know there are some in a drawer, but I don't remember what they are. Typical.

String choice will make a huge difference with a Greco, SIT Power Steels were a bit too much bass and lo-mid for my taste, Ken Smith Rock Masters were perfect as they don't push those frequencies nearly as much as SITs.
I have gotten pretty fond of Rock Masters on pretty much everything. Or Bass Burners for DeCola pickups. The 2015 has tapes on it at the moment, and that works well, too.

I’d love to find one of those on sale somewhere!

If it’s the model I’m thinking of it has the EB13 exposed coil DeCola pickups, same as the 2015 Tbird. Great sounding bass with a nice tight low B.

That’s a sweet looking Jazz! What year is it?

Years ago the single coil Jazz bass sound kinda fell out of favor with me. But I sure do love the look of those.
I’ve been contemplating a new Tbird build but wanted to do something completely different and cutting edge again.
Maybe a jazz inspired build is in order, I just have to figure out a way to make it sound more humbuckerish than a typical jazz.
When you move here you can come check them out!! Then maybe you can take one of them home with you. Lol

<vent>Never fly through ORD in late fall or winter. Family coming from Amman were held on runway for 4 hours before cancelling flight. 5 and 3 year old not allowed out of seat so peed themselves and have no dry clothes left and 5 hours before rescheduled flight. American Airlines can kiss my 🫏. </vent>
Another reason not to fly. One thing some unelected bureaucratic agency in the Fed gov should stick their nose in is this kind of mindless stupidity that affects many flyers. I pray the the two who peed themselves hugged every airline employee they could find on the way out.

I have a roasted ash body Jazz Warmoth, with a roasted maple Musikraft neck, Aguilar Jazz PUPs, and a Dingwall 4 way rotary pickup selector. The neck/bridge setting in series to me has a humbucker vibe. It's the only setting I use, and the only Jazz bass I play (my avatar Dingwall J5 has Ptone/Ptone/Super Fatty II pickups, and it also sees some playtime but my Thunderbirds get the most).

The other settings are neck only, bridge only, and neck/bridge in parallel, I'm sure Jazz bass fans would find them useful.

More likely left a present for the cleanup crew. :roflmao: Good news they made it to us this morning. I am now being mugged.

The show I saw was in an arena, and the Molly Hatchet audience was all high school kids, more or less. The Allman Brothers audience was late 20s or maybe early 30s and were fairly dressed up. The kids were all wearing black concert tees and jeans. The kids mostly left when Molly Hatchet was finished. This was in the late 1970s or maybe early 1980s. I don't remember now. Both were great in their own way, but the combination was an odd one. Of course, you can probably guess that I like odd combinations of music a lot.
Interesting thing about clothes. The first time I saw BB King, a friend and I dressed like we did for all concerts. T-shirt and jeans. :rollno: Everyone else was dressed like they were going to church. The other funny thing was other than people working, we were seemed to be the only two white dudes there.
Second time I went with a boss who was a black guy. Not for that reason, we were just friends and he had no family here so I tried befriended him and we enjoyed music. I sat next to a tiny old, old lady. We chatted some and then she asked me is I wanted a snort our of her 1/2 pint she slipped in. He kept teasing me about my lady friend.

In the order of too far to way, way too far away...Happy Birthday to Miles and George. I think y'all should run around in the street necked with just a Thunderbird strapped on to celebrate in style.

(We trust your word, so no need to post pics to prove it happened.)
Thanks! Consider it done.

Yes! I could have added Albert. He was fantastic in concert.
Which reminds me of others I would have loved to see, Freddy King and Albert King.
When I saw him, at one point of the night he brought on Johnny Winters. The audience went wild. I know a lot of people like JW, but compared to The Iceman? I couldn't wait untill he got off stage and attention was back on AC. I have nothing against JW - I've just never liked his style of blues-shredding.

If the Triumph still had SUs, then it would be more than a century. As I recall, SUs were designed in 1909, give or take a month.
I got good at dialing in the SUs on the old ‘59 Volvo 544 that had the B1600 engine. Those were the days. I remember changing the clutch, doing brakes, replacing the brushes in the 6 volt generator, tuning it up, replacing shocks, etc. Earlier Volvos had a Zenith carb. The SUs were reportedly a huge improvement.

I’ve had the ‘24 Subie Crosstrek for a year now. I’ve never opened the hood on it. The dealer serviced once so far.
