Thunderbird Club

If you want massive snarl and growl with a massive bottom end look no further than the Warwick Thumb BO5. It’s a beast among beasts.
And I think that solves my new Tbird build dilemma. An active Tbird with Jazz pups like the Warwick. That would be killer!!!

On the current Tbird snark front the VP is it!
I appreciate that, but I'm not looking for massive bottom end, only solid bottom. I'm more of a massive low-mid fan. I chased the perfect Pbass for years, for whatever reason, I only found it in 10lb Ps, the rest didn't have much bottom. Then I got my first Thunderbird, and gave up on Ps, though I still have 3.

Nobody has told me yet what the signature Greco tone is. What is different than alnico Thunderbirds?

Whatever happened to butt bows?

String choice will make a huge difference with a Greco, SIT Power Steels were a bit too much bass and lo-mid for my taste, Ken Smith Rock Masters were perfect as they don't push those frequencies nearly as much as SITs.
I find SIT Power Steels have some serious lows. GHS Boomers kind of lows, but Boomers to me have more mids of various flavors.

Lucky you! Love this (TBird and all)....
ever see Icehouse?

Yes I have, a couple of times. Once when their name was still Flowers. I have the first album “Icehouse”, I got it when it was brand new.

It’s the old story, they wanted to overseas but there was already a US (I think) band named Flowers. So the album was magically referred to as Flowers by Icehouse. That worked out very well for them!

Saw them again with my wife during the Electric Blue era.

Iva has done very well as a singer & guitarist for someone that attended “the Con*” as an Obeist.

* the Conservatorium of Music, Sydney.

? Did you mean Crowded House ?
Only their live TV farewell shows from the Opera House steps from memory

Australia Crawl song Reckless also has a Thunderbird in it, a fretless bass (and a Sydney reference in the lyrics). This song is a bit slower than their usual but kind of moody, maybe atmospheric.

Yes, I have seen them live. James Reyne (the singer) I’ve also seen in The Party Boys (first version) and has had a very good solo career, including some acting jobs.
This was a number 1.

My top 5 live concerts:

1. Pink Floyd, 1976, Knebworth Park, England, Quadraphonic performance of Dark Side of the Moon

2. Thin Lizzy, 1975, Corn Exchange, Cambridge England, we were 2nd row

3. Grand Funk, 1972, Salt Palace, SLC UT

4. Collective Soul, 2022, Golden Nugget Concert Hall, LasVegas NV

5. Aerosmith, 2008, Delta Center, SLC UT
2021, MGM, Las Vegas

Honorable mention, but top 10: 38 Special, Los Lobos, Fleetwood Mack, Tom Petty/Jackson Brown, Eric Burton/War

I got good at dialing in the SUs on the old ‘59 Volvo 544 that had the B1600 engine. Those were the days. I remember changing the clutch, doing brakes, replacing the brushes in the 6 volt generator, tuning it up, replacing shocks, etc. Earlier Volvos had a Zenith carb. The SUs were reportedly a huge improvement.

I’ve had the ‘24 Subie Crosstrek for a year now. I’ve never opened the hood on it. The dealer serviced once so far.
I'm really happy to be mostly unaware of what the engine on my van even looks like. I know I have seen it, because I had to put in a new battery. That was something like six years ago. I don't think the hood has been opened with me around since then. It's really pleasant to not spin wrenches on the daily driver. I don't mind spinning wrenches on toys.

Have a Great Day George & Miles, anything fun/special planned?

….
Karen (Sharon’s twin) and Marvin (her hubby) flew in from Charlotte. I went to the doc due to my swollen tongue & throat (nothing to do with my special age, thank you), and came home with steroids and an epi pen. We went to Moonshine Grill for my birthday dinner. Chilling now.
Our daughter, Esther, her hunny, and 3 kids arrive tomorrow. They all leave next Friday. We hope to have another 3 families or so from church/extended family on Christmas day.

I have a four string EB from 2013. It gets played a lot. At one point, I thought it would be the bass I get buried with. Except that it would be a waste of a perfectly good bass guitar. It needs new strings at the moment. I know there are some in a drawer, but I don't remember what they are. Typical.
I don’t get the “this bass will be buried with me” thing. Somebody out there could use that bass - whether to sell or to play. Especially Gibsons, as they are comparatively rare.
