Thunderbird Club

Early Molly Hatchet was old school killer. Show up and let the music rock you.
The show I saw was in an arena, and the Molly Hatchet audience was all high school kids, more or less. The Allman Brothers audience was late 20s or maybe early 30s and were fairly dressed up. The kids were all wearing black concert tees and jeans. The kids mostly left when Molly Hatchet was finished. This was in the late 1970s or maybe early 1980s. I don't remember now. Both were great in their own way, but the combination was an odd one. Of course, you can probably guess that I like odd combinations of music a lot.

<vent>Never fly through ORD in late fall or winter. Family coming from Amman were held on runway for 4 hours before cancelling flight. 5 and 3 year old not allowed out of seat so peed themselves and have no dry clothes left and 5 hours before rescheduled flight. American Airlines can kiss my 🫏. </vent>
Not good. I pick up my daughter tomorrow AM and I’ll ask her how she/Jet Blue would handle the situation. Making kids who are old enough to know better wet themselves is cruel.

I know where you're coming from re the disco, but...
Code Delta added Jive Talkin to our set list for the last two gigs. When I sat down and listened to it, I realized it has a killer synth bass part. It took me out of my rhythmic comfort zone, but after some work I managed to get it under my fingers. I got a decent sound with my Manta filter pedal and it's actually a lot of fun!
I just got a C40 synth pedal yesterday. Figuring that out is my next brain challenge :D
I get it. Not my cuppa. But if I had to, I see how it could be fun to try. There is a bit of a disco vibe in The Clash’s Lost in the Supermarket that is sorta fun.

Don't forget Hamer and Jackson!!

I’d love to find one of those on sale somewhere!

Good evening Thunderbird loving sisters and brothers. I hope all of you are doing well. I have been contemplating picking up a not too expensive bass to leave at the office, so as to hopefully practice a bit while taking a break. I am curious if anyone has any experience with the Gibson EB series. Not the short scale, but I believe long scale from the 2018 to maybe 2018. I seem to be using 5 strings with both bands and found a 2018 EB5 on Reverb that is actually at a pawn shop here in Spokane. I am hoping to slip away early from work tomorrow and check it out. It doesn't seem this series of basses caught on, but that doesn't mean it might not work out. I don't think I have ever seen one in the wild, so am hoping someone might weigh in with their thoughts or experiences with them.
My favorite big girl was back yesterday morning, I was backing out before I realized she was there.
I hope you all have a good Friday and a great weekend.
If it’s the model I’m thinking of it has the EB13 exposed coil DeCola pickups, same as the 2015 Tbird. Great sounding bass with a nice tight low B.

That’s a sweet looking Jazz! What year is it?

Years ago the single coil Jazz bass sound kinda fell out of favor with me. But I sure do love the look of those.
I’ve been contemplating a new Tbird build but wanted to do something completely different and cutting edge again.
Maybe a jazz inspired build is in order, I just have to figure out a way to make it sound more humbuckerish than a typical jazz.

Have a Great Day George & Miles, anything fun/special planned?

Back the the topic of Greco's, I'm still not sure of the hoopla, from what I've gathered there's plenty of bass and low mids, and output. For ME, solid, but not heavy bass is good, low-mids ideal, with decent highs. But also VERY important is growl, or if I can get it snarl. Will the Greco pickups get me what I like? Polite basses have gone the way of the Dodo bird in my bass world.

Muddy Waters is about the only person I would make sure to never, ever miss. He didn't get to where I was all that much, but I saw him a number of times and he brought it all every time. If you ever see the movie "Last Waltz" about the Band, he is in the movie. The footage in that movie is way more subdued than what he was like in person. Let it rip doesn't even begin to describe it.
Muddy was a legend for sure. Another kick-ass bluesman I saw in Chicago in the '80s was "The Master of the Telecaster" Albert Colins. Also know as "The Iceman".

If you want massive snarl and growl with a massive bottom end look no further than the Warwick Thumb BO5. It’s a beast among beasts.
And I think that solves my new Tbird build dilemma. An active Tbird with Jazz pups like the Warwick. That would be killer!!!

On the current Tbird snarl front the VP is it!

As one Dec 20th birthday boy to another - Happy Birthday Miles!
I made it to 67 today and figure you’re at least 10 years behind me. Congrats again on another year under your belt, hope there’s many more where that came from.
Another Bday!!!
Happy Birthday @GBassNorth!

String choice will make a huge difference with a Greco, SIT Power Steels were a bit too much bass and lo-mid for my taste, Ken Smith Rock Masters were perfect as they don't push those frequencies nearly as much as SITs.
