Thunderbird Club

They changed the neck geometry on the '64, the VP is more like a vintage 60s. I'm absolutely in love with the VP 760 pickups (the 64s are good to but the 760s win by a hair). The '64 overall have beefier dimensions and feel less svelte than the VP and the 1960s originals, the '64s in general are heavier as well. Also I think the fret work is better on the VP than the MIC '64. Despite all.that I did buy a Ember Red '64, I do like the fake MOP dots 😁😎

I misposted this in another thread. Miles asked who they were. They call themselves The Blue Velvets.

The bassist is Jorgen Carlsson. He was the bassist for Government Mule from ‘08 to ‘23. The drummer is Erik Eldenius. He currently tours with Billy Idol. The guitarist is Cary Park, a SoCal guitar legend who played with Bruce Hornsby, among others.

Eldenius lives up at Pine Mountain Club and got them together to do a little show Friday night in our clubhouse. A real treat to hear world class touring and studio pros play in a small room. The place was packed.
I thought that was Idol’s drummer!

Have they always had issues like this in high winds? I seem to remember the power company coming around occasionally to clear branches away from lines to protect them. In our case, Dad had called them a few times asking them to come clear the lines. I've heard PG&E raised rates to cover the cost of fire mitigation measures. I wouldn't be surprised to hear this stuff is happening in part due to deferred maintenance.

Gotta hand it to the crews that go out in the nastiest weather and handle these situations for us all. Good union work, dangerous as hell, but we'd be worse off without them.

Looks sweet! I have to ask though, what's the secret sauce that makes you prefer the VP over the '64?

A most Happy Birthday to @Instagator. Hope it's a great day!

Here's that Bass I promised you :)

I've never heard anything but good comments about them. If I can't find anyone here--body shops included--I may give them a call.

I'd love one of these. But that's never going to happen.

I've been watching ZZtop concert footage and thinking about a P style with a lefty neck. Sure looks good with the Tbird pickups! It wouldn't be too difficult to put one together.

During tonight’s rain the fam (I was out) heard a big BANG, then a tearing noise.
The street tree has sheared right down the middle and the side overhanging our front yard has crashed into the yard. I think my newish frangipani tree has been flattened, but otherwise I think we are ok.
Glad everyone and most things are OK. That could have been bad.

They'll do that, but it'll cost ya $$$$$.
My bill last year this time was ~$300. Slightly warmer winter this year and the bill is over $500. That’s CA guaranteeing a 10% profit to monopoly power companies. Our new farm in far northern CA has a power cooperative, 1/3 the price per kwh.

Just got some hostage photos from the seller of the Fernandes Tbird I bought on eBay (thx again Andy for the heads up). It won’t be here for a few more weeks but it has some interesting features. No experience with Fernandez or Burny basses so I hope it’s a good player, if not, I’ll make it one.

Love the pink sparkle and the neck volute…

Great idea on the string through body design to eliminate anchor pulling and silk or windings on the saddles…

Can’t tell for sure but the headstock looks nearly as big as the VP…

Neck through or set neck with the strap pin in the right place…

They're set neck, I had one and it was okay, not great. Build quality was fine, the pickups were a bit bland, the headstock was just stupid big, kinda like a VP but wider - and since the body is light it really did want to dive a bit. It had a notable dead spot at Fs on the E string which TBH I found odd and not fixable, I did put some Nickel covers I got from Mike Lull on the pickups after I skinned the black plastic off of them.

Loud and live with it a long time ago.
