If I didn't already have one, I'd be all over this one, broken headstock or not - Looks like it has all it's "bits". Certainly the nicest one I've seen since Chuck's came up.

Huh. I am driving down by Murrieta late tomorrow afternoon for a Friday meeting. I wish I could do it. But I have a couple irons in the fire for more sensible purchases. At least for me.

I hope someone here can get it. George? Dave?

A much sought after vintage 1977 Bicentennial Tbird…
Except for the paint which was removed and repainted white, and the neck that has been modified, the pickups which are no longer sidewinders and have been replaced with gold SDs, the controls which have been replaced by preamp, the body which has been routed for a battery, the tuners which have been replaced with gold ones, the knobs which are gold and stacked, the bridge which is a gold Hipshot, the truss cover which is now white. And no mention of the availability of all the original parts so the new owner could somewhat return it to stock if desired.

From the looks of it the only truly original unmodified parts on the bass are the Pickguard, the strap pins and the control cavity cover. For a couple thousand less than the asking price it might be a sweet find. I’d need to hold that neck in hand to see how first position feels, looks like they drastically changed the contour to a sharp V from the first fret to the headstock. To be honest, it’s nice looking and tastefully done, but just begs the question - why?

I have more basses and Tbirds than any one person should rightfully own. So the only way I’d consider this deal is a “one in one out” proposition with a straight trade for something else I already have of about the same value, not many dealers are very willing to do that. But I have a few basses I’d consider offing for this one, so it’s not out of the question, just not on the front burner right now.

Yeah, I’ve been watching that one since it posted, not so much to buy, but to drool over. It is sweet, but boy have they climbed in price.

Mine was 7,500, but that one has a much better repair of the neck , both of it's covers and the mute is intact except for the felt, I'm glad I already have one, otherwise I'd taking $$$ out of the bank this morning :woot:

If I had that kind of money to spend on a bass, I'd buy Mike's NR, but wait to take delivery until Mike can't play it anymore.

score one (60's Bird) while you can.....

I don't see them getting any cheaper anytime soon, there's too few. Being a little older I see it as something I get to have for awhile and that I should enjoy it as much as possible - eventually it will go to someone that hopefully gets as much enjoyment as I do from it.
