Thunderbird Club

Gimme a minute

After playing/buying this one I feel like everything I've ever heard about Thunderbirds is wrong haha
Hey, now don't tell anybody. It's our little secret in here. Anywhere else, they neck dive, sound muddy, are way too big and heavy, have self-destructive headstocks, and did I miss anything?

I’m hoping the value of original 760’s holds up. I have a pair in a broken ‘17 VP I have set aside for a future project. I would have offered them up to you, but I may want to use them in something down the line.
I don't blame you at all for keeping them. With few Thunderbird options out there, even fewer that sound so close to the originals, they are a good bet. Depending on how the Koreabuckers sound in the Embassy I'm temped to keep it and if I find some 760s drop them back in it and have a nice bass--which I honestly don't need.

Yeah, well. I only need one bass. But I enjoy having what I have.

We're going to have to get you to the West Coast to try one out, not too far from Tacoma (inside joke)

You know I have serious respect for you and your abilities as a bassist, thank you.

I think it's very close to the real deal.

I like that Electra too. I remember seeing them back around '81.

Just brought my VP home and it doesn’t fit my TBird gig bag, anyone know of a source to buy an Epi ‘64 TBird gig bag?

I got one of these for my 2017 Epiphone VP. Fits perfect.

Were they called E1 in ‘18? I don’t recall. I would like to know what factory made that one and if the current ones are made in the same factory. For curiosity.
The E1 designation appeared during covid after the Epi IV disappeared off their website and then quietly showed back up at dealers (but not Epi’s site) as the E1.

Thanks, I was looking at those, great to know they’ll fit

They were not called E1, but simply Thunderbird IV (vs Pro IV/V, CP, or VP). It was made in Qingdao, China. The quality of that bird is very nice and the setup is as good as the WillBird '64. That nut looks almost 1 3/8".

I finally got around to listening with JBL Live Buds, 1 time ambient mode, 1 time noise canceling, once again ambient:
1. P sound, good for old school
2. Like
3. Like a lot
4. OK
5. Like a lot
6. Nope
7. Nope at first, moved to ok, then good
8. Ok, moved to good
9. Ok, moved to good
10. Ok

My ratings are Like a lot, like, good, ok, and Nope.

Surprised that the 2017 VP didn't score higher but it was in the top 3, but then I love mine which has stock strings, so probably the Fender strings impacted it, will try DRs when they die (Sunbeams or Pure Blues).

Also surprised I found the Eppi '64 only ok, given some here love it.

George tribute to 66 NR was a favorite, as was the Gibson NR '22. One had ProBuckers, one Gibson reissues.

Also good was the Blingbird and Goth.

I would also like to hear Greco, CP, '63-5 reverse and ceramic PUP to compare. I have a VP with cobalt flats, and like it a lot.
There are so many variables. I don't even hear the same thing from my basses from one day to the next.
