Thunderbird Club

Hi Gang!

Wow pretty much says it all.

The ‘77 Bicentennial arrived almost exactly four days after leaving Edmonton and arriving at the Bakersfield house. I pulled it off the FedEx truck, signed for it, and loaded it in the Subie to take it up to the mountain to unpack it and take it through its first play through the SVT VR and Berg NV610. Talk about angry piano. Anyone who says Sidewinders wired in series was a mistake needs to reconsider their opinion. This Thunderbird is wonderful.

This came courtesy of @Bulltrout. A great club member. I can’t believe my fortune in connecting with him and being able to acquire a bucket list Thunderbird. The transaction and the bass exceeds every expectation. This was his listing:

It arrived expertly packed.

The 48 year old case is in good condition:

There is no neck joint plate. (Must be said as in “There is no spoon”.)

This is a very good suggestion! I noticed when looking around that the screws that hold the truss rod cover in were actually quite loose and the plate wasn’t even flush to the surface of the headstock!!!
Might even check the truss rod. It could be loose and might be a sympathetic vibration situation there or someplace else. Go in another room with the amp if possible. Could even be something in the room.

And he threw in the headstock!
Looks fantastic Marshall! Congrats!

Let’s see if the Chuck Magnet wants it. He asked first.

No worries at all Dave. I may not need it. Well, it needs it, but will it make a noticeable audible difference in my case? I don't know. I'll see if I might consider a Hipshot as a possibility. But if I can't bring myself to part it out, I may move the current bridge and put a cover on it--which I think I would prefer. We'll see.

Congratulations!! Looks like a beauty!!

So, I like my Hercules mini stands. They take up such a small area and are easy to transport. They obviously don’t work for the lanky and funky bottom TBirds. So, I’m thinking of making a template to make a “funky bottom booty” device that will easily affix to the Hercules arms, and have an recessed well that’ll caress that funky bass bottom gently, but firmly to allow for the use of the stand.

Does that sound like a good idea?

Chris shipped it with a fresh set of Lo Riders. Time will tell. But the Bicentennial sounds fabulous through the SVT with them. I’ve been cranking it for a few hours now. Stopped to make dinner. I may not go to bed tonight. No one around to tell me to stop. I’m in heaven.
